Bullshit ... it's very complicated. The idea of the matter is simple, but the reality and practicality is complex.

Let's talk about GA and FL. You states that a lot of liberals here were saying it's going to be a death trap. Cases down deaths down. GA been open for 17 days.
When are some people going to realize that we overacted as a country. Seems to me that some people want to be controlled by government. Your fathers and your grandfathers didn't fight for our freedoms only for some of these liberal people to just give up your freedom electively.
The virus is real. The overreaction is largely propagated by the media and certain elected officials and lobbyist that want to see a change in who is President in November. Create mass hysteria, create massive economic issues, drive up unemployment, etc. etc. It's all a dog and pony show. Throw in approval to vote by mail and you have yourself an election.
Except we know it does.
Even in places more densely populated.
It worked in Hong Kong and South Korea.
And you have to spend more than 5 minutes with each person( or close to them) to be a contact. That 8 hours of close talking to 100 different people.
You guys act like it's impossible. But it is done.
The White House is doing it.
So Fauci was still saying around mid to end of January we didn't have to be concerned with Covid. Trump was listening to his advisors seems like to me. And who among the leadership in Washington was saying anything otherwise at that time. I'm listening??? Not one of the dems were.
As far as now, what do you think Trump should do that he's not doing? Martial law and lock us down??
He had already disbanded/cut/fired everyone except Fauci - so there was no one left to provide guidance.....

Can't read .. don't have a subscription. Maybe so tho .. I don't know.
I just know Pelosi, Schumer, Cuomo, and others are on the record as not concerned with it around that time either too.
ETA: And my question still stands on what he should do now that he isn't doing? Dems fixin to try and pass out $5 trill additional dollars to folks. Seems like some folks might be concerned with their kids/grandkids future but instead seems like they concerned with their parents/grandparents health or their own.
And FWIW ... not a republican or democrat either.
Things are opening up and I'm glad. Outdoor venues in Alabama are opening up for live music. My son will be performing multiple shows in Huntsville starting next week. It's about damn time we get back some of our normalcy. It'll be interesting to see how many people they let congregate and if we'll have to wear masks. I'll probably be wearing one regardless.
Hong Kong? Come on now. There is no tangible, scientific data showing contact tracing has worked or will work with this virus. SK model was test like crazy on the front end and isolate. Proactive. Contact tracing is reactive. It doesn't work with this virus, unfortunately. If you started showing symptoms quickly after contracting the virus (Ebola), it would work great.
And if the prerequisite to be a contact is more than 5 minutes close to a person, that tells you it's never going to work. You can spread the virus to 100 people a day and never be around any of them more than 5 minutes.

None of those provide scientific data that contract tracing was the reason for any slow of the spread of covid. Lot of good theories about how it could work in other countries though via digital tracking and closed circuit monitoring of humans' movement.
More importantly, you can't enforce digital tracking and closed circuit monitoring of Americans. I suppose the govt could try it, but every court in America would strike it down.
I'm not "affiliated" with either party either, but I was just pointing out that he essentially cut integral positions for a pandemic of this nature.
This whole thing has gone from saving lives to being very political. I know the OP wanted to keep politics out of the discussion, but you can't. When governors and mayors start reducing our liberties as citizens under the guise of health - it's scary. You have people who have worked their lives building a business, only to have it decimated because politicians won't allow citizens to make their own individual decisions regarding taking the proper precautions to stay safe.
Blue states/cities want this to extend as long as possible, while red states/cities are taking their cues from a sociopath.
No win situation for the average Joe.
Probably wouldn't argue Trump is a sociopath and has a lack of conscience about some things. And he's very narcissistic too. Not a huge fan of his myself, but do believe he's done some good things as POTUS. And if you wanna talk sociopath, the alternative to Trump was really scary. And the future opponent is a senile, clueless old man. Just imagine where we'd be with him as POTUS.
But as sociopathic as Trump can be, I do believe he actually cares and actually does not wanna take our freedoms away and probably moreso than any President since Reagan IMO. And I'm not a Reagan idolater either. Trump, or any POTUS at the current time, is in an extremely difficult position and there are no good choices. And advisors are changing their views and moving goalposts every day. And not everyone's interests are what's best for the people and the country. And I believe Trump is trying to keep those 2 things in mind and achieve a balance there ... believe it or not.
But some folks don't care about the country, they just hate Trump, or they hard core Dems or Republicans regardless of what's good for the country. And the one's who hate Trump probably ain't too unhappy with how thing's are going now, cause it gives them a better chance in Nov. And that's what really matters to them the most.
The president has information that other didn't. https://thehill.com/homenews/adminis...zen-classified

U.S. intelligence agencies warned the president more than a dozen times about the coronavirus pandemic in daily briefing materials throughout January and February, even as the president was still downplaying the threat publicly, The Washington Post reported Monday.
The Post reported that issues of the President's Daily Brief compiled by the intelligence community contained warnings about the spread of the coronavirus to the U.S., including assertions that Chinese officials were covering up the total spread and death toll related to the virus.

But even more Damning... https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/05/...onse-playbook/ Read page 9 of the "Playbook for Early Response to High-Consequence Emerging Infectious Disease Threats and Biological Incidents" developed by the Bush and Obama Administrations and left for Trump...
A pandemic response team, that was disbanded in May 2018.
And a team from CDC that supported investigations into stopping "Novel diseases orginatinging in China), that was disbanded by Trump...
Y'all got to quit making this so damn political and stay off the social media. If Trump failed so badly..... that means every country has failed miserably. Not to mention our own House of Representatives calling out Trump "initially" for singling out China during the pandemic's infancy. Oh, but the Trump critics forget to mention that. (And to all of you idiots claiming Trump had prior information blah blah blah..... remember, Bill Clinton supposedly had prior information on the 9/11 attacks and did nothing about it...... you can't act on every piece of information you receive. Sometimes the facts aren't strong enough at the given time).
Maybe this situation will give us all an opportunity to exercise, eat healthy, and help ourselves create a stronger immune system.
LOL.
It literally passed YESTERDAY.
Do you allow your web browser to know your location?
The government can get your browser history without a warrant... https://gizmodo.com/heres-who-just-v...arc-1843445032 Supported by Both Mississippi senators.
Your location is in that Data...
And you opted in.
Just had a thought, where has the aclu been during all this? lol
This whole thing began so that we could bend the curve and not overload our healthcare system. Mission accomplished.
Now the whole situation has turned strictly political. Both sides are jockeying for public support and its sickening. If you can't see that, you have blinders on. I don't care which way you lean within your beliefs, as both sides are guilty. In the interim, we're moving into a socialist society.
Nevermind, 17 it.
Which is why I said "enforce." You can't enforce digital tracking or closes circuit monitoring for contact tracing purposes, at least not yet.
Yesterday's bill you reference was an amendment to the patriot act, and all it did was allow access to browser history without a warrant if the history is relevant to an already ongoing criminal investigation. That law may or may not survive 4th amendment judicial scrutiny, but regardless it is limited to use in criminal investigations. Any info gathered cannot be used for any purpose outside of what is allowable under the patriot act, and certainly not to enforce anything to do with contact tracing or for any non-criminal use, such as monitoring where a law abiding citizen has been and who he's contacted.
The govt cannot lawfully monitor your daily whereabouts for the purpose of contact tracing. At least not yet. There are conversations being had about it though, and some of the legal concerns are addresses in this article. Will be an interesting constitutional debate.

Wrong.
They tested symptomatic people, The contact traced.
That's how they know Patient 31 spread it to 1,160 people.
South Korea even published the data of how many each person infected.
