Because he throws cutter. An elite cutter is Hudson’s at 91. An 85 mph cutter isn’t too bad but depends on the placement.

And that is why we should have had somebody else pitching the 8th.
Freaking moronic to have Self out there in a one run game.
Win one up there and we are good. Baseball perspective folks. Funny thing, I ain't even a baseball fan. I'd sell the whole program, and the stadium, for one SEC title in football, and you should too , IF you have the University's national brand at heart. I still keep up and I LOVE the New Dude. I took off to go to the opener, and have been back since. If we have ever done something right athletic facility wise at MSU, the New Dude is it. It's still college baseball, which usually has ratings that lag behind college softball, Baseball is a pro based sport. Good game up there, no matter the outcome.
I hope one of our guys asks Lemonis after this game why not Eagan against those lefties.
Cost us a much better chance at extra innings or winning this game
Ha! Who else knew we'd score 1 run when Self gave up that bomb? I can't be the only one
Rowdey, wow that was a shitty at bat.
Lost but Cronin is burnt for the weekend at 30 pitches. Their pitching staff is ass now. Now we need two straight wins and we have our full bullpen.
Well thats baseball. Good coaching to everyone. Good approach by everyone at the plate.
Self should only see the mound in midweek games that we are leading by 8+ runs going into the 9th. How does our staff not realize that? You don't win road SEC series with dumb coaching decisions...and throwing your White Flag in a one run game is the type of shit that earns you getting swept.
Why did we leave Self in? He was struggling and we had a Lefty Lefty matchup warm in the pen. This L is on coaching and getting picked off of 1st in the 1st.
I doubt he will even be needed. Our pitching staff is a lot better now. Seriously, the guy that started tonight is their only good starting pitcher. They will start their backup QB on Saturday vs Ginn. A true freshman tomorrow against Plumlee. I like our chances the rest of the weekend.
Just don't get swept
I've seen Tony LaRussa who is the best manager I have ever seen IMO make moves that screwed up the Cardinals from getting to the postseason before. Every manager makes poor decisions from time to time. It's not a big deal as long as it is not a consistent issue.
It seemed like all night we were very slow to bring in guys from the pen. Small was struggling and we just left him out there too. It just feels to me like at times we have a poor feel of who to pitch when.
I agree and I hope so. But it's yet another frustrating "we should have swept this team" series if that indeed happens. We probably could have swept USM, Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, and we'll see about Arkansas. We should have won the series against LSU as well. I know and understand that things happen in baseball but it always seems like some BS happens every weekend (except for Alabama) and it's always something different. We should be running away with the SEC right now.
And yes- if given the choice between complaining about not sweeping and losing a series give me this option all day long.
The difference in this game was simple. Arkansas SP took advantage of the bizarre strike zone the ump had and Small did until one shitty inning where he inexplicably pitched 4 straight BP fastballs. We were slow to get him out and they took a 3-1 lead. If that game is tied 2-2, Self is not in the ball game in the 8th. That extra run was the difference in Lemonis making a dumb decision. Sucks but hey we are 32-7. I do think we take two because I doubt very seriously anyone’s strike zone will be as bad as Walsh’s was tonight and we will have the pitching advantage the rest of the weekend.
Said the same thing regarding LSU, but our hitters made their pitching staff look like all stars. Our adjustments were terrible, but Walsh sucked. That 1st strike on Foscue was the 3rd strike on the lead off walk by small in the 6th. Same damn spot. Different calls.
Sec loss on road. It happens. They aren't just gonna roll over.
