Can we drop a guy that signs a FAA with us?

Cam Vaughn to West Virginia
That's a big loss. No way around that. Bumphis is currently getting worked on the recruiting trail. It's time to start to have that conversation. Now, maybe he pulls a couple out of his hat, but we're at the point now where you're taking potential over production and that's a scary place to be. You could still get Markus Allen and he was a pretty good production guy last year, but you've missed on some big ones for one reason or the other. It's weird, last year we could get them to visit, but couldn't get commits. This year we can't even get visits. If it was on the defensive side I would understand because they were atrocious, but we actually put some good numbers up on offense.
And yes, I understand he played for Rich Rod at Jax State so he's probably just following him there, but this is a guy that was supposed to visit and we were told by him and his reps that he just was going to push it to when the visits opened up, and he didn't.
Well we need 3. Thompson is not going to get it done. We still do not have a true X receiver. And as much as I do love Ayden Williams, I think he just got buried at OM, you still are taking potential over production. Now the good news is that there will be receivers pop open in the Spring Portal. I know of about 4 right now that if I had to place a bet, will be at a different school when Fall Camp begins. Squirrel White is one of them.
No receiver will want to play in that offense. Gus is running a sped up version of Mullen's offense. He always has and always will. Find me the receivers that Gus Malzahn has put in the NFL. It's 1. Darius Slayton. That offense is not a WR friendly offense. Now I'm sure Norvell sold him on he's going to blend his offense with Malzahn, but I can guarantee you, it will be Malzahn's offense. Also, Thomas Castellanos is the odds on favorite to be the starter. That's a running QB. He's a sawed off version of Nick Marshall.
It?s baffling that Bumphis is struggling to recruit the portal. That is a guy I would have said would be one of the best.
Carter Miller committed to UCF.
Yea looks like the national guys jumped the gun on that one. I just find it hard to believe they jumped the gun and were that wrong. My guess, the kid told those guys he was following Loadholt and then Loadholt told him we didn't have a spot or didn't know if we would and he couldn't just hang out there without a landing spot.
Dazmin James is on his visit now. Grace should get here later today, got delayed at the airport.
I think the staff is pretty high on Keenum, but Lee can play center as well. He started for Eastern Michigan this past year. I think in a perfect world, Keenum could play center and Lee could play guard. At least that was the thinking with Kennedy. Loadholt may have a different line of thinking.
NIU WR Cam Thompson commits as expected
Not a huge fan but I'd love nothing more for him to prove me wrong.
Sounds like Ayden Williams will visit either tomorrow on Wednesday. We're trying to get some visits in last minute before this winter storm affects travel. Robertson seems to think we'll kick the tires on Anthony Evans, the UGA WR, as well as Brandon Cisse, NC State CB.
With Evans, Lebby recruited him out of HS and he was actually committed to them for a couple of months so a relationship exists there.
I would not feel terrible on closing with Williams, James, and Evans. There's not a whole lot of production between the 3 but there's size with Williams and James and speed with all 3.
Damon Wilson in the portal
So here's just what I've kind of been able to piece together from a bunch of different people over the last day or so:
Thompson is being brought on for speed more than anything. He's going to be a deep threat guy and a return specialist. He's not going to be a guy that is going to be an exceptional route runner and can route himself open. He knows that and we know that.
We are really high on Williams and James and want both very badly. I feel great about James and good about Williams, as I have for almost a month and a half now. You obviously don't ever like a prospect visiting somewhere else, but Ayden and his dad both feel that he can come here and contribute far more than he was ever going to at OM. He was buried on the depth chart there and then got recruited over before he had the chance to contribute.
On Evans, Lebby loves him and wants him. He really wanted him at OU and didn't like when he decommitted. Thought there was a chance we'd get him last year but couldn't get him to enter.
I say all that to say, the 3 WRs number is kind of fluid because they don't exactly see Thompson in that WR number. He'll play there but probably would only play 5-10 snaps a game there. Look at him as your Creed replacement.
I'll work on getting some DB info a little later on. This crap moves so fast that good info could be bad info within 15 minutes.
Thanks for the update! Appreciate you grinding it out.
