There's a reason why BOC was mad that he had to bring in Gleason yesterday.

This game was fun. It was a battle. This is the type of game you want. The SEC season is going to be a battle as well.
The ump costed MSU a few backwards Ks. Especially on Ben Davis.
But still hit the kid on the foot and then pitched to the SS.
Also 3 runners thrown out stealing. It was clear with mid-majors this was not going to work on elite teams. That was an inning worth of outs given uncompetitively.
In this thread I see a ton of negativity countered only with neutral "we can learn" type comments. I know it's a loss but I'm shocked this place isn't more positive
We played the #1 team in the country with day 3 pitching. This was an Omaha level game. We objectively outplayed them, just didn't get the bounces in our favor (or ball 4 called so when the bases were loaded B9) to get the W.
For those who need more concrete points to why we'll be fine: 1) it's early in the season and the coaches are trying stuff. They won't be stealing bases in the postseason after results like this. 2) the coaches wanted to give pitchers work so pulled them fast, if this was a postseason game Ben Davis would have come in 2ish innings later and we'd have had enough pitching.
Overall, State baseball is BACK, and we belong on the field with anybody anywhere. It's fun to see and the future is bright
Today showed without a doubt- we are one of the best teams in the country
My attempt at arm chair coaching: I was calling for Nunnalee to pinch hit for Parker with 2nd and 3rd no outs (my wife will testify). Nunnalee is known for not striking out (even though he did later) and being able to handle the bat. Parker is a true freshman and will swing and miss; granted, he hits fly balls.
Why Billingsly? He is just out of juco. What about Webb?
I would have liked to have seen guys with some college experience in those spots, especially this early in the season.
Well, that would be USM. I'm hoping today's game doesn't hurt us having to play on the road in Hattiesburg on Tuesday night. We really let one get away against UCLA. Outhit them 14-8 and overall outplayed them. A lot of things had to go wrong (especially in the 9th) for us to lose today. But now, if we mess around and lose to USM, we would only be 2-2 in this 4 game stretch with losses to both ranked teams we've played so Tuesday's game is important. Would definitely feel much better to end the stretch 3-1. But right now I'm not very confident in Foster and we burned a lot of our best bullpen arms today.
Yep, in 2021 threw to Tanner Allen with a busted right-handed side winder. Everyone in the stadium knew TA was going to mash. Good reminder.
Parker should have intervened and intentionally walked the golden spikes leader and 1st overall MLB pick.
My meltdown is about the basics. I expect to lose about 14 SEC games this season, because the competition is great in the SEC. But if you can make this kind of mistake, you might lose 15 or 16.
Also, if you rifle through 6 good arms on one tight game and the arms are unavailable the next day, after a 0.2 inning stint. You might routinely see Billingsley and Booth on SEC Sundays. I hope this game was aberrational.
