Link Jarrett?
I'd be fine with hiring him, but are we really going to pull him away from his alma mater?

If our offer order goes: 1. Jarrett, 2. Bakich, 3. O'Connor, 4. Wasikowski, we're getting a really good coach, and I'm betting on O'Connor.
Wait. Interest by who? If he has shown interest, I can think of only 3 reasons he wouldn't get it or take it. They don't show interest just to string ADs along.
1) we didn't reciprocate the interest
2) both parties couldn't come to gather on the specific "commitments"
3) He is milking FSU for a stronger "commitment".
Word is FSU made alot of promises last year and then went back on them. Pissed him off to the point where he is "looking". Heard same thing about Bakich. They pretty much told him they were not allocating a,lot of funds and football and basketball would get the majority.
People have to remember. The house settlement is coming. Schools are picking and choosing what they spend money on, and baseball is a distant thought for most. Luckily for us, we are going all in sounds like. Coaches are going to jump at the opportunity to have a job like that no matter what some posters on here say. There is a reason we are getting big name interest.
House settlement my ass. That’s a big bunch of BS.
Football programs are spending 30MM or more this year on their teams. They aren’t going back to 10-12MM. You guys are kidding yourselves with all that. This dream of policing money to the players is just that- a dream
you don't have faith in tuberville and saban? why is the house deal a load of baloney?
Completely different discussion with regards to baseball.
Fact of the matter is for many schools they simply don't have 30 million just laying around and it's going to take time for them to build that up.
One way to fill the gap even if it is firing a rock at Godzilla is to take it from baseball. And that may very well benefit us this job cycle.
Its going to cost 1.3MM or so just to try and keep Reese and McPherson. 2 players. We bout to find out if we are a big boy and if crowds matter
Saying crowd sizes DON’T matter is an oversimplification of the NIL problem. Could you imagine Bryant-Denny or Death Valley with 1/3rd capacity?
Yuck
The schools in the conference where it just means more will for the most part continue to dole out money for baseball. But remember that LSU, Tennessee, Texas, Florida, Alabama. Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky all spend money on the Olympic sports too! Gymnastics, Swimming, Diving, soccer, etc.... They are going to still spend the lions share on Football and Men's Basketball, with Baseball, Women's Basketball, Softball getting what's left over.
Let's all root for Virginia to lose tonight.
I don't know if that necessarily knocks them out of a Regional but it would prevent them from playing their way into a lock this week. Beat case scenario, UVA isn't picked and we announce O'Connor next week sometime.
I dont see any way we announce a coach before that school is done playing. So if we do- that means we are hiring a coach that didnt make a Regional or is an Asst coach. No coach is going to create that nightmare going into a Regional/Super/CWS
Or its some type of pro coach
I mean I could be wrong, but it would floor me if we announced a HC while our team was still playing, or had yet to play. My gut, and some rumblings I have heard, tells me the hire will break June 3rd, be announced by the university June 4th, and the press conference will be June 5th. Unless we make a Super then all bets are off when it will be announced.
Edit to Add: This also works on the premise that the other coach does not have a team still playing. If that is the case, that would also push the timeline.
Yea I was kind of operating off if O’Conner is the hire. If it is someone else, the timeline could shift. I do think it is the same days though. I think it breaks one day, the next day the university officially announces it, and we have the presser the day after.
As mentioned repeatedly on here, through no fault of O'Connor, UVA is probably not going to a Regional without a run in the ACC Tournament, so there's an opportunity to hire a coach while we're still playing but his old team isn't.
I completely agree we won't hire a coach until his team is done, but if we go on a surprise run, that shouldn't delay us.
Wes Johnson just got a raise and extension through 2031 with Georgia.
It will be hard for things to not leak if a coach finishes their season before us.
edit: not from Selmon, but from the other side of things.
I think it's O'Conner.
