That doesn't sit well with me either. I saw some of that shit last year and had to quit watching.

Can we hire Kruger's JUCO hitting Coach
I took a minute since I don't know personnel that well to look up past box scores. Looks like Stovall has subbed in one of the games against SDSU and batted 2x in the 4 hole for Collins. So unless I looked at the box score wrong somehow, after a leadoff double in the 3rd, Cohen is then bunting with someone who can hit in the 4 hole for Collins??
I sure hope someone will tell me I'm misreading something here and Stovall is at least a horrific hitter or something similar.

I like this dudes confidence and how he handles himself
As far as the sub deal, I wouldn't look too much into that in trying to determine the type of hitter a player is. Once you get into the game it's about a match up and/or just a substitution to get players AB's. That doesn't mean he is consider a 4 hole type of hitter. Michael Smith subbed into the 4 hole in the other SDST game.
Guys ... I'd love to see Cohen be real successful, but he ain't gonna make it I don't think. I'd probably quit if he did that to me ... unless MAYBE if it was a drag or push bunt ... and then I'd want the option if it's in the 3rd inning.
Well like I added to that post, in the other SDST game we subbed Smith into the 4 hole. These were both blowout games with mass substitutions. Depending on who is coming up next would have determined the order not the starting line up. It's like if you have 6, 7, 8 coming up, you may mass sub with what you think would be future 1, 2, 3 type of hitters. On the card they are listed in the 6, 7, and 8 hole but may not be what is projected. Make sense?
That's why I asked for clarification from the board that he could hit.
Sure. And he can hit. He is just young. But looking at where he subbed doesn't necessarily mean anything depending on where we are in the line up. The game you are talking about he came in as a pinch runner in the 4th. His first at bat was leading off the 6th. So absolutely no coorelation where he subbed and being a 4 hole hitter. He may project into that role but where he subbed was incidental.
ETA. This is not even mentioning that defensive positions has much more to do with who you are subbing with as hitting ability.
Ok. Based on finding out he can hit ... to me that's hurting good hitters confidence and probably ain't making the clubhouse a fun place to be either. I don't know ... I guess I just don't understand Cohen's baseball philosophy. I was surprised the recruiting class was so good after last year ... especially if any of the recruits watched the games and saw some of Cohen's calls.
If he gets us to Omaha then that would be good ... but I'm not gonna bet the ranch on it.
Where you sub into doesn't mean shit. But, he shouldn't be bunting there for damn sure.
Cohen gonna get cute and cost us big necessary innings with that bullshit. Innings cost games, games cost hosting, costing Cohen his job.
I understand. Just was trying to help you understand that subbing is not necessarily an indication of someone's projected role in the line up for the future. In simplest terms Collins was playing 3rd. So you subbed with a 3rd baseman in Stovall. And in those games it was just mass substitutions. It was a coincidence that Stovall should be a good hitter. But he is young still.
And while I am a mix but still believe bunting is not only useful but also an underrated tool to the pure Sabermatrics guys, I didn't like that bunt in that situation and during this time of year especially.
