That one yesterday really hurt. Highfill going all out and the throw was just a little off. Who tags up on a foul bunt? Gotta give the dude credit it was ballsy as heck. And you're right about tomorrow. Somebodies going home with the weight of the world on em. Like Butch but i hope it's him!
A win is a win but I'm very concerned that the move we had to make today in the 9th to win (pitching Nixon) may result in a loss tomorrow. We have 6 pitchers that should even be pitching in an SEC game with Gartman out. We have now used 5 of those already. Better hope Lo goes at least 5 to 6 innings tomorrow and we've already built a big lead. Probably will have to jse Loftin some and hope he can find the strike zone. If we have to use Stinnett or Yntema we might as well raise the white flag. Siary might be of some help.
Always enjoy your posts, especially your insight in baseball. Why do you think our coaches seem to always stick with a spent pitcher too long? I last played in 7th grade in 1967 and actually pitched a little until my arm was shot early in said career. Even I can tell when things are headed South and you better have someone up in the pen and ready.
Looking at Auburn pitcher stats, they are living on a prayer too. They will be similarly stressed with pitching performances.
The guy that started today, used to be Sunday. They have major issues similar to MSU. Maybe the game will have a football score. 17-14 or something crazy like that.
Basically equal matched 6-11 teams, desperate for that 7th win.
One of our pitching issues is that we would really like to win Tuesday against Ole Miss, then the Tennessee series starts on Thursday. We need Gartman back.
The timing of our pitching changes really has been bad and I don't think there is any one factor that is causing it. I think its a combination of a few issues.
1. When our guys hit the wall, they hit the wall hard and fast. Hunt goes from mowing guys down, to cant get an out, almost instantly. So, we are already in the midst of the meltdown once they realize it.
2. The coaches are worried that pulling a guy will hurt their confidence going forward (as if them getting shelled wont).
3. Many times it happens with 2 outs, the coaches are hoping that a guy can get one more out without having to make a change. Again, trying to show guys that they can work through a jam, but they can't.
Understandably, Lemonis thought he could get through one inning with an 8 run lead. HOWEVER, I don't understand Fox not going out to let things settle down for a minute when the wheels started to come off.
Another thing that frustrates me, when we know a guy isn't going to make it through the next inning; we never let a reliever come in the game to work a clean inning. When we have a guy on his 3rd inning of relief, and he's probably not going to make it through a 4th, just make the change between innings and give the next guy a clean slate, vice coming in with traffic already on the bases. The coaches are like old people putting their social security check in the slot machine a nickel at at time thinking "this next one is going to pay off".
only one thing improves it and that involves a for sale sign in lemo's yard
