It's over anyway with another Mitchell fielding job done right
BOOM!! Now cheer up and cut out the whining for a night or two. Still a lot of baseball to be played
Some of you will gripe all night, but I'm gonna enjoy another win tonight!
At the risk of starting another shit storm- and PLEASE don't take this the wrong way- I hate it how it seems like every time we win a game, series etc. it's because we beat a shitty team. You're not the only State fan that has done this- but our fans are quick to put our team down it seems like.
There have only been two sweeps on the road this year in SEC play thus far- Ole Miss over UK, and MSU over Mizzou.
Woot! A road series win is awesome! I really hope we can sweep. That would be great.
Nice Cohen stat. He is 104-1 in last three years when leading after 8. Wow
Great job by Mitchell. Good first two games that saw unbelievable performances by Fitts and Mitchell. Go for the sweep tomorrow and like I stated earlier cautiously optimistic. We should take 2-3 from Tennessee next weekend and setup a very important series with Alabama to end regular season. We do need Rea in the lineup, Collins in the lineup and put Heck at lead off. Of course, odds are good that won't happen.
We just have to take it one game at a time. Agree about UT- we should take two of three from them, and Alabama is going to be tough on the road.
If Randolph catches like he did today, Cohen will play him. Collins has more talent and he will be fine in the future, but he's still a freshman right now and he's going through the SEC grind right now. It would help him out a lot if we had a guy like Mitch Slauter to take some of the load off.
We scored 3 and 4 runs last weekend in losses and you blamed the pitching against A&M. We had lights out performances this week with Fitts and Mitchell. We need to score more then 3 runs a game against good teams to give ourselves a chance. To expect lights out performances from Fitts and Mitchell every week is ludicrous. Just is. We need to put the lineup out there that gives us the best chance to win. Other then one inning, the kid blanked us. He wasn't pitching very well either. As I said before, happy for the series win, but we won't beat good to great teams with the lineup we are trotting out there.
Good road series win! We need woody or Ben to step up tomorrow for us
With all that said, I think we do sweep them tomorrow. They have a losing record on SEC Sunday's and they have pitched their best pitchers.
I did blame the losses to Texas A&M on the pitching. I am very pleased with how Ross and Fitts/Lindgren/Holder have pitched this series, and I am also pleased with Laster the other night. The guy that beat Ross vs. A&M is a top 100 draft prospect. Then they beat a less than 100% Preston Brown. In hindsight we should have started Woodruff and the umpire sucking rubbed salt in the wound.
I do agree that we can't expect to shut out every opponent that we face and it does put a lot of pressure on the pitching staff. No question about that. But in defense of our offense- we just beat two pitchers with ERA's under 2.00 on the road. That said, we do need to get better on offense no question about it. The freshman that Auburn pitched today has a chance to be a first round pick in a couple of years.
Agree 100% with you with this post Todd. However, the freshman pitcher tonight made quite a few mistakes we didn't capitalize on. Luckily 3 runs the past two nights has been enough. A&M is one of the top hitting teams in the conference so expecting our pitchers to shut them down was a bit short sighted. That pitcher who started for A&M on Friday also had much more success against lefties then righties so when we put six left handed bats in the lineup we gave them the advantage against us at the plate. That A&M lost series still really stings me because that was one we never should have lost. But like I said last weekend, sweeping Auburn this weekend will still keep us in position. Let's hope Cohen can push all of the right buttons down the stretch to make a post season run.
Congrats Dawgs and Great Job Ross Mitchell. Got to listen while shopping and running errands. Yes, I took my radio and headphones into Bed, Bath, and Beyond. I would find a place where reception was good and stand there ridiculously still. Hope I didn't scare any kids.
You hit the nail on the head. Really, the lineup LH/RH bull shit is the main thing I have questioned him on. He didn't go this outrageous with the lineup last year nor do I remember this big a descrepency in lineups in previous years. I guess we can blame this on no one really stepping up like they did in previous years. But I do agree Todd this is the main thing most people question.
