Of course they were inside the 30, it was overtime. But it wasn't a stop at the goal line. He could have also thrown another interception, his 6th of the game. Or we stop them from scoring even if they had got that first down. Or they score but miss the extra point to tie, not win but tie, and still lose. Or miss the 2 pt for conversion to win. And no matter what we think might have happened, it wasn't that we were 6 inches away from a loss. A first down at the 15 is not the same as stopping a team at the goal on 4th and that score wins it. Not the same and it's just dishonest to say it was. Mullen was a yard away from beating LSU his first year, that play would be a true statement. A possible first down at the 15 is not 6 inches from a loss. He was just as likely to throw another INT like he had all night and had just done 2 series before in the 4th.
