I think it was one of those things where looking at the hire from a distance looked great but people at PSU knew he was screwing up before Franklin stepped in and put guardrails on him.

The whole thing with him not being able to get plays in with 40 seconds was ridiculous. He was in over his head and really hasn't done anything at Akron either. The journalists really thought he was a homerun hire but you would hope Cohen would have done more research.

I would give Cohen a pass on the Canny hire but Moorhead was entirely his 17 up.

And honestly, any decent DC was going to kick ass with that talent. You could have probably won 10 games purely running the normal option / RPO game. Moorhead's version only works against slow Defenses that aren't even average SEC level.

I met a PSU alum a couple of years ago that knows some folks in the AD. He said it was common knowledge that Franklin told Moorhead he had to choose his ten best plays, five run and five pass. Those were the only plays he could call the entire game. Add Sequan in there and Joe looked like an offense guru when he was just a stubborn goofball. James Franklin gladly helped him move and programmed the GPS to get him to Starkville.
