Ha. I don’t know, he’s never been know to be able to win a big game. But Paul Blake still has 4 years eligibility left

I think Fine would do good here. His lack of running ability will hinder our O, but we mostly need an arm to go along with our RBs. He'll looked like he's quick with his reads, and very accurate. Our O does a pretty good job of getting guys open, it's just Fitz doesn't see the field worth a crap. A QB with the mental ability to go through reads and the arm to get the ball out would GREATLY open up the O, which would allow the RBs more room than Fitz's running ability gets them now. Fine may have a few balls knocked down, and he may get broken in half, but he can throw the ball a lot better than KB and seems to be faster mentally. I'm a KB fan but I do feel Fines' great passing-bad running combo is probably better for our O than KBs' ok passing-ok running combo does.
All you people saying "he's going against CUSA defenses he will suck here" need to think about it. 1) Our line gives Fitz more time to throw the ball than Fine was getting, so he won't even have to speed up his reads. 2) Fine is playing with CUSA talent, so while the defensive talent will be much higher here Guidry and Mitchell are also better than anyone he has currently. 3) Our O would score 14 more ppg if Fitz would just hit guys with 4+ yards of separation. Again, we're getting space. If Fine can see the field and throw a good deep ball we'd be much better. yes SEC D's are great but the windows to throw in aren't really much smaller. Main difference is we have better blitzes and the bigger front 7's get into QBs heads more.
If Fine can keep from mentally shutting down like Fitz, and if he can consistently make routine throws and go through his reads, I think this O will be opened up a ton; far more than the extra gain a mobile QB gives us, though that's obviously a plus. KB would be the safest bet, given his size and experience at a high level. But I feel Fine has a higher ceiling here.
What about tommy Stevens?
This is the thing that gives me the most hope that JoeMo can improve the offense next year. Even as bad as the drops have been, Fitz just misses more open guys that never get a ball thrown their way. He is more likely to throw into double or triple coverage than hit the wide open checkdown. That was the most surprising thing about the TD against Bama was Fitz actually checked down to Kylin. He hasn't done that all year.
I thought Fine looked very average. I wasn't impressed with his arm strength and never have been. When pressure was in his face, he struggled. Can't run at all and is too small to take the SEC beating doing it. He's got top end CUSA talent, so he's going to look good in that terrible conference. He just hasn't faced any real good teams and had success.
Am I missing something on Mason Fine? He was recruited in 2016 to UNT. He is a true junior. How would he be eligible to transfer and play next year?
