There are alot of players still in the portal. Its all about recruiting them now. We need a couple bigs

Thoughts on the perimeter positions (mainly 2 spot and 3 spot)?
What the hell kind of name is Debreasha?
Quanirah Montage to Auburn
Miss. State women basketball signs NJCAA 1st Team All American guard Awa Fane.
where does the juco all american fit in?
Again, this team is going to be bad. Like bottom 4 in the SEC bad. They lost a lot of talent and have replaced none of it.
5 more players he can get.. Let's see what he gets first. Also, We have a few really good Freshman coming in, I know Freshman aren't usually counted on but Madison Francis will play day 1, go watch film. Sam is bringing in a top 10 high school class.
Our only losses that will hurt were Okot and Jerkaila. Everyone else was replaceable
I'm not saying you are wrong and to be honest its hard keeping up with who is still available in the portal because On3 and 247 don't update as often. What I do know is we bring back Destiney McPhaul who should have been our starter, her numbers as the backup were better than Deshields. Chandler Prater also returns, she ended up becoming a starter towards the end of the year (replacing Enyia Russel) and had several double digit scoring games. So thats a solid start with those two. 6'7" Jiminez will hopefully be healthy this season. Trayanna Crisp is a transfer guard coming in that had really solid numbers at Arizona state 2 years ago, with UNC her minutes were literally cut in half because they were deep so her production wasn't as good at UNC. But thats a decent core to start with. Again, we have a top 10 Freshman class with 3 solid Freshman coming in who all 3 might play early, especially Francis. The biggest need Sam will have to address with these last 5 picks are bigs. All 3 Freshman are 6'1 or better and we added Richardson from Ole Miss at 6'2", Jiminez is still an unknown at 6'7 so more than anything my concern is getting in a few proven bigs. I think we are OK on the perimeter with what we have so far but I'd like to see him get another proven scoring perimeter if possible. threat also.
Ive seen you mention we lost alot but haven't replaced it but who are we really replacing? Okot and Jerk were the only two players we lost that were good, even Powe's production wasn't great this season.
My issue is none of our transfers are difference makers. We have two P4 transfers who played very little, but we expect them to be difference makers for us? Does not seem plausible. The third averaged 11 points at ODU. That is very meh. So we have may lost just a few productive pieces but we have brought in NO production.
Both of you made some solid points. Fans are starting to get uneasy about Miss. State's use of the transfer portal but maybe the coaching staff has a plan in play regarding all of this, and like NCMSTFAN indicated...they still have several more spots available to fill for the roster including a couple of post players. Basically, they're not finished yet, and they're not depending totally on using the transfer portal.
Also, all 3 freshmen (Francis, Lampley, Gray) are extremely talented. Can the team compete at a high level without them developing fast and becoming key pieces?
Again, you are not wrong and we definitely have some concerns as we sit here today about the roster, but I do like the core players we have so far. Since Purcell has been here he has brought talent to Starkville, with 5 positions open and uncommitted portal players out there I will hold out judgement on this portal class until he is finished. But I am excited about our incoming Freshman class so that gives me some hope.
It does suck to see Coach Yo at Ole Miss bringing in all this talent and we still have so many holes to fill, so I definitely understand your concern.
USC women's basketball team had 8 freshmen on it's roster this past season. (Note) This team blew Miss. State's women out 96-59 (by 37 points) in the NCAA Tourney..utilizing mostly freshmen (a few non freshmen as well but mostly young) after Ju Ju Watkins went down with an injury.... again, freshmen. Also, I noticed how the announcer kept referencing to how USC's length was bothering Miss. State. If you go back and watch a replay of the game..you can actually see what he was talking about.
If the team had to play today (current roster)...
8 man rotation
5-7, 5-8 King- PG
6-3 Gray- F/C
6-1, 6-2 Lampley- G/F
6-2 Francis- F
6-2 Richardson- F
5-9 Mcphaul- G/PG
5-8 Crisp- G ( Arizona State and N Carolina..in addition to shooting guard she helped out at the point on both former teams)
5-10,5-11 Prater- G/F
6-7 Jimenez C- last report rehabbing, further evaluation as the season approaches
5-8 Fane G - wait until after she arrives, expect to learn more about this player
Sleeper of this team.. is incoming freshman Nataliyah Gray out of Houston TX .
Does the Miss. State women's basketball coaching staff know anything about a post player from Coahoma County HS in Clarksdsale Mississippi named Caitlin Hall? 2024-25 Mississippi Class 3A Miss Basketball. She's right in they're own back yard...over in Clarksdsale. She's really good down in the low post. Recently signed with Shelton State CC.
