Do you ever feel unlucky? Kenpom has our luck at #288. OM is #4
It's not that we're unlucky, it's that we're just not good enough. Even with Hubbard, we're not any better than last year. The players we had coming back just have not improved. Still terrible shooting 3's, still terrible shooting f/t's, and the defense is arguably worse, at least in league games. Jans may be a good coach (I think the verdict is still out on this) but we don't have talent and he's not a good recruiter and that's the only way we're going to improve.
Maybe so, but I'm willing to wait and see once the competition lets up. We've played 4/5 Q1 games in sec, and it will be 5/6 this Saturday... 3 of those 6 will be top 10 net teams. This start has been brutal
Now take a look at February...
At bama
Georgia
At mizzou
Ark
OM
At lsu
Kentucky
If the wins don't start rolling in after at bama, then yeah, we have problems.
Hubbard was 9-25 with 17 of those beyond the arc. That's 36%. He's been shooting 39% all year. Anyone with 25 attempts a game not getting at least 20 points needs to sit. Our team just sucks and conference play is going just the way it's gone every year in recent memory. We finish OOC with 1 or 2 losses and think we're hot stuff.
You're right.........It's kinda like the women's softball team.......Every year they start out with a bang and we think we've got something only to get in conference play and shit and fall back in it.
Looking at the sec Q1 games...
1 team has played 5...
Us 1-4
3 teams have played 4...
Tenn and bama 3-1
Kentucky 2-2
3 teams have played 4...
Georgia 0-3
SC 2-1
FL 1-2
3 have played 2...
OM 0-2
aTm 1-1
Mizzou 0-2
So yeah, our sec schedule has been tough
Our offense is tough to swallow unless hubbard is on or Tolu is on, preferably need both for me to like our odds of winning. The offense is what it is. But gosh darnit if you know your offense sucks at least coach the team up to get free points from the free throw line
Got to agree with Matt/ Since TS came back and JH went total ballhog this team has gone to shit. We've had one game where everyone played great, TN. Since then we have got completely worse. DJ back to putting up airballs from the 3 and JB has all but disappeared from site. The guard play has really sucked/
I just finished watching our game (DVR). It didn't matter in the end, but the missed travel call against Florida was pretty blatant. The refs must just not been looking. Pretty good comeback attempt in the final few minutes though.
Intentional fouls at the end made the score margin a good bit worse than it really was. I don't think I've ever seen intentional fouls at the end actually working.
You cant "coach" FT shooting. Shaq had some of the best coaches in basketball history and coulkdnt make them. For the most part- people can shoot or they cant. You will rarely find a guy that shoots well from the field that's a bad shooter on the line. Announcers were talking about how Tolu was the last to leave practice the other day because he was working on FT's. How many shots facing the basket does Tolu take from the elbow or outside the paint? Almost none- why? He cant shoot
DJ's numbers have declined every year (aside from rebounds which is his average). His first year in 2019 with Memphis was his best year stats wise and it's been down hill since. He's shot mid 30% the last two years.
Davis is another SR that has declined each year.
