Yeah, going back to OM basically makes LK unhirable for big programs in the future, and his own fanbase will hold a grudge.

If Lane stays, and he's not, he is an idiot. The Bluebloods are gearing up with $$$$. They are not going to allow what they have been to be trashed by Ole Miss. They will out spend and use program prestige to beat them on talent alone. Ole Miss does not offer the program prestige nor the amount of money that will be needed over the next few years to keep up with those programs.
When that happens, Lane Kiffin will no longer win these close games. His value drops, and he will be stuck in that situation. He knows full well what he is looking at. The money to recruit and the program prestige to not lose a recruit on $$$ alone.
Kiffin is gone.
I don't know how any State fan doesn't know that. It was common knowledge that we were matching or beating Florida offer. Dan would have been making at least $6 million per year at State, in 2018!!! That's 8 years ago. Imagine what he would be making today if he had stayed.
I have noticed that there is a LOT of MSU fans that have their own head canon of how things with Dan were in their head that simply weren't or aren't true.
MSU not countering Florida and Tennessee is one of those things.
Dan simply does not, never did, and never will feel about MSU the way that some of our fans wish he did. He literally left, barely said good bye and then tried to poach our players and recruits to Florida.
And this theory that Dan will somehow "see what he had at MSU and how good it was" and come back is also laughable.
Maybe he has done some reflection but Dan is Dan. And a leopard never changes his spots. I suspect if he came back again he would probably be looking to leave again and use us as a springboard to somewhere else.
He has been at UNLV for less than a year and he has already put his name out there for other jobs like Arkansas and he is already on his second DC.
Well - his first DC really is a mulligan. I mean who could have expected THAT.
And I'm not saying he's fully changed over - but I am saying I think he's a bit different and knows his lane a little more. He knows he could have stayed at State and been a legend for life. If he tried to seriously come back, I don't think he would use us to springboard. It will be telling this cycle - he's got real upward mobility opportunity. But what role is he looking for. If he doesn't change then it speaks volumes.
The Wendy's rumor with Arnett wasn't true. Dan and Arnett didn't get along. Which isn't a complete surprise to me.
The reality is the college football world doesn't think nearly as highly of Dan as MSU fans do. Which is why he isn't seriously being considered for any jobs this cycle despite being 9-2. Now, that might change but I doubt it.
I'm gonna say this. Prominant OM boosters aren't happy because they have had a $13.2M/yr extension on his desk for a month with no response. That's a fact.
This hurts their self image.
I talked to a diehard OM guy who has been involved with athletics there for a very long time. He is so disgusted and pissed off with Kiffin, he was talking under his breathe about how bad of a situation and he wants him gone now. Me and another friend were shocked at what he was saying in about 2 minutes and walking away.
Funny thing is he could stay for a chance to win on playoff game, break Vault's win record at ole miss, and bolt out the door.
Or ..... we win and keep him from even tying it
Yep it is obvious he has reflected on how poor things turned out for him leaving. Also the highlight of his career was probably as HC at MSU even if he won't openly admit it he knows its true.
I don't think he comes back and nor should he. He burned his opportunity at MSU and it was a good one.
I watched that presser. When they told Kiffin that you could see he didn't know he was 2 wins from breaking that record. If he is allowed to he would coach 2 more games hoping to win just to break the record and bolt. He wants his name etched in history.
We can ruin that. It would be great.
