In baseball and the Portal era you can't afford to take a guy who will suck fr 2 years to get 11hrs and .270 hitting in year 3. You can spare 1 year of development, but then they need to produce. Just not enough bench spots and roster turnover is too fast for 2 years to grow. Plus when you can Portal in a replacement you're probably better off taking high ceiling projects vs a .270 DH project. If the high ceiling project doens't work out, they can Portal away and we can Portal in a Yeager

If it?s that simple, why wouldn?t you just portal in a Yeager to begin with.

We are middle of the pack SEC in hitting. You guys acting we are garbage are dumb or dont really keep up with college baseball.

Would we like to be better? Well hell yeah. Our 2 best players not having their best seasons plus Kohler and Larry not stepping up has been disappointing.

Where is your guarantee you get a Yeager? Many projected Kohler to be a 12-15 HR guy. Didnt work out. What do you guys not understand about recruiting being a crapshoot with 80% of the guys you sign in baseball??????

Loftin was considered a sure-fire rotation guy who had a high asking price to MLB. Look how that's turned out for 2 years.

Situations like this is why we have been where we are. Everybody in the SEC would have taken Loftin's signature.

Obviously not every player will be a stud. Lets do the math on it.

Say you sign 1 HS kids that needs 2 years on the bench and then give you 1 year of 270 hitting. And you do this every year. Each year, you get 1 .270 hitter from the 3 players on your roster.

Vs, you sign a high ceiling HS kid that needs to develop each year. Over time, 1/3 pan out into a Rooker, the other 2/3 suck and Portal away. We Portal in replacements. Of the replacements, half are sub par (Kohler) and the other half are Yeagers.

Rooker-Kohler-Yeager = a better run than .270-.270-.270. And, the ceiling of your program is higher incase you can hit on several high ceiling guys at once.

Not this year but I was comparing their careers over 3 years. Larry is a much better player. 24 hrs to 15, 308 to 270 avg, obp 442 to 398 and 46 sbs to 7, but just trying to point out hodo is just an ok sec player, and picked Larry as a comparison based on the 3 year careers. Could've picked other players but so many have considered Larry just an average sec player I wanted to see how our average sec player matched up over the 3 years.

This is correct. We're not the 27 Yankees on offense but we're not terrible either. Pitching and defense has been the key this year.

That's basically how it's going to work. And really how it is basically working now.

Teams are only recruiting guys that they think are SEC caliber guys- which means fewer developmental project types.

If a player doesn't contribute or is in line to contribute teams are going to essentially cut them and replace them from someone in the portal.

Especially if you are a hitter.

Pitchers with Tommy John and injury issues like Loftin a team may keep just because you never know if they are going to click in year three like we saw with Dakota Hudson and Chris Stratton. So you can afford a spot for a couple of guys like that.

That was my point and why I put ?If it was that simple??

How can you guarantee you won?t take a guy that sucks for two years just like you can?t guarantee you wind up with a Yeager?

Although, having someone that can actually evaluate worth a crap (not Lemonis apparently) would go a long ways for us.

Loftin gets healthy he could still be a draft pick next year. Parker had already corrected some things and he was throwing pretty well even with lower velo. He's got to develop a pitch to go with his change. I blame Foxy for not developing him.

Some of the folks I've talked to have dropped Hines below the 10th round. He's really hurt himself this year.

If Hines had any sort of leverage I would say he comes back 100%. I just don't know how much he'd realistically raise his stock by coming back. I mean maybe if he put up Rooker type numbers then yes.

I was curious about him as well. Injury is injury- they happen. His situation seems different. What about Evan Siary? Is he hurt as well? Or just MIA due to lack of performance or trust?

Oh I agree completely but also remember he's getting a good piece of the nil pie from us. I believe he goes to but his stock has really dropped.

I have no idea on Siary unless it's injury. He wasn't throwing terrible and we need relief arms, so I assume injury.

This is where I hate they changed the damn draft rule. Under the old rules? Jordan and Dirtbag are back for a 3rd year- which they both need. Instead they are draft eligible. I don’t think Dirtbag will go high enough this summer but you never know
