It helps him but it's not what makes him special. What makes Small special is the ingredients of his fast ball.

However, it does assist him but most pitchers lack the balance & body control to do what he does at his balance position.

Additionally, the new way of teaching deliveries & velocity is big on momentum & gaining it through the delivery, which would go against stopping at the balance position like Small does.

For example: Wes Johnson is a very modern pitching coach & a damn good one as evidenced by the Minnesota Twins play right now, & the first thing he did with Dakota Hudson was speed up his delivery a hair. Same thing with Blaine Knight at Arkansas.

It does. Just seems like if you aren't throwing mid-90s it could be a way to separate yourself and keep hitters off balance. I don't know how well it would translate to pro ball, just seems effective in the college ranks.

Another thing about Small is how far he strides on his pitches. He gets some distance which makes the ball appear faster.

They're gonna call it for tonight I'm afraid but shouldn't they get thru the bottom of the 6th first? We just had to hit in the fog. Make them do the same thing.

Velocity is only part of it. Fast ball life is more important.

If you want to understand Small more, study guys like Marco Estrada & Mike Fiers. While they are a little different & right handed, they get it done in similar ways. Similar fast ball ingredients

Yep, the fog didn't get significantly worsen in the 4 minutes it took to play the top of the 6th. Never should've started the 6th... bullsh!t SEC office!!!

We all saw the phone call from the sec office. Are you telling me the home office said to let ole miss finish pitching the top half of the Inning and then pause play? No real explanation for the delay at that point. Do it in between innings

Shoulda called it with 5 complete, but NOW that they allowed us to open the 6th, the 17's from Oxford are to get another AB so the game can't be called!!! Sux!!!

Hell no, with 5 complete innings, it was a legit game. But now that the umps allowed us to bat in the 6th, OM has to get a chance, so they can't call it.

That's very true. With bad weather expected tomorrow I don't see us finishing this game. Likely finish this one up Sunday and play one more. Not sure if that would be a 7 or 9 inning. Course, this is purely speculation on my part.

This isn't hard to figure out....LSU screwed up the hosting numbers for the conference by getting annihilated two weeks in a row.....conference office says "OM is next up, gotta do what we can to make them look good".

I've got a LOT of experience as a photographer at a place that is VERY prone to fog. If you can still see ANYTHING on camera it's still absolutely playable. This is more about Ole Miss not being able to hit Small than it is about "fog".

You seem the forecast for tomorrow? Chances of them finishing this game tomorrow AND getting a second game in are pretty crappy.

You don't want to try and finish game 1 tomorrow, have to try game 2 and potentially postpone that second game to the next day due to rain, then try and finish game 2 on day 3 AND end up with a 7 inning game 3 on Sunday.
