couple of options out there the last I heard. Couple are tied in because of the Virginia ties with Arroyo and Godbout. Arroyo is a 2 way player and a huge draft risk. Godbout played 2nd but could easily slide over to SS. The biggest name that I hear as a possibility is the SS from Call State Fullerton Maddox Latta.
LHP Loy from Tennessee is a player to look out.

It's going to come down to MLB signing bonus vs MSU NIL. If Godbout comes to MSU I'm sure it would be to play SS. He almost immediately entered the portal when Becker announced he was returning to Virginia. But he would be very expensive NIL wise because he has a 2nd-3rd round draft grade. He would be turning down a million dollars and lose draft leverage to come here. Latta is draft eligible but doesn't have nearly as high a draft ranking. I think he would be expensive to get but way cheaper than Godbout. Arroyo is in the same boat and we might as well include Bevis, Stallman, Valincious, and Frei in the boat with him. I wouldn't turn down Arroyo but I like the idea of maybe using Frei at first base if we get him back. I think he could have a monster year if he plays more than half a season.

There was definitely something there. Usually if a rumor isn't true they get the MSU writers to squash it ASAP. I can tell you the LSU people I know didn't think that they were going to get him. And then they seem to be zeroed in on Carraway from Oregon State who is a third baseman just a day or two ago.

When this rumor was started it sounded to me more like something that Vitello and Tennessee would do. LSU just never really made sense to me because of some things that I have heard about Ace and his Dad liking Starkville and MSU better plus the NIL deal we gave Ace. Now, yes I could see LSU coming back around to kick the tires after they won the NC to see if they can get him while selling winning a NC to him but that would really be a Hail Mary more than anything.

Tennessee on the other hand needs to try to find someone to replace Fisher and they had a connection through Henry Ford who was on Ace's team in the Cape. Fortunately for us Jay Powell was the coach so if there was something up he could notify our people pretty quickly.

It can also be true that Ace was getting uninvited attention from other schools and their signees, and our staff decided to fly up and show support.

Everyone who has any sort of sourcing on this has said the same thing, Ace Reese was very close to leaving. Faulk said he had the tweet ready to post. Steve and Co. had the article ready to go. Like this was a real thing. LSU was pushing but there were other teams sniffing around such as Tennessee, Texas, A&M, and UGA.
