Damn you must have taken your medication** LOL
Btw since I have been a Msu fan, I can only recall 4 or 5 decent to good coaches. I remember listening to radio with Jack when Babe was coaching who is our GOAT.

"Our "success in making the tournament" coincides with the rise in paying players having heightened the floor for all SEC teams. Correlation is not causation here - Jans is not the driver of our success, he's passenger and Ben Frank is the driver."
We are historically where we have been and lower in the SEC meanwhile the entire SEC floor was raised. Anyone comparing us to past MSU without acknowledging this change in balance of power consolidation to power 2/4 conferences is not interpreting the data correctly.
I have always been a Jans supporter and I still am, but being ranked last in the SEC and #134 NET is definitely concerning. Making the tournament this year would take a Texas A&M 2023 miracle SEC run, but he needs to hit the portal hard and correct this for next year. Dennis Gates had a year like this at Mizzou but he fixed it and just like Gates I think Jans is a good coach and just made some poor evaluations this year.
I don't think we will either, but in 2023 aTm had a similar non conference situation that we are in this year. They lost to Wofford, Boise State, Murray State, Colorado and Memphis and then went 15-3 in the SEC and placed 2nd. Not saying I THINK that will happen, but it is kind of a similar situation comparing the resumes and having a few guards on the team that can step up their play.
Jans does get a chance to fix it. But there's no confidence in him succeeding.
I think if we fire him then we should look to hire a rising star coach from another school and poach a lot of their team instead. And I do mean a coach making less than $500k and just giving him a modest raise. $4.2 million to coach this pile of dogshit is ridiculous. Don't spend on the coach just to spend.
I'm a big Jans supporter, but we are at best a 5 win team in league play. Jans missed horribly in the portal. He deserves a year to fix this, but he's got to win next season or he'll be gone.
No problem. It?s all good
Coaching is difficult because you need to be able to do it without leaning too far one way or another. If you go to far the other way, you have a Moorhead situation. That is why it can be difficult to find coaches who the players respect but at the same time are not going overboard with the yelling and screaming.
A different era for sure but Richard Williams was the "harsh and demanding" coach and Stansbury was the "re-assurer and comforter". When Stans became the HC, Robert Kirby became the firm and tough coach as an assistant while Stans maintained that comforting coach I was told and when Kirby left for Georgetown was when the team discipline appeared to be lost. My point, I definitely believe it takes both roles to manage a team, especially a unit as small as a basketball team. So who plays the comforter and reassuring role now?
This would line up with the timeline of our basketball team becoming less disciplined. Stans definitely was more passive and it is evident by the way the team played pre 2010 to post 2010. I think this held Stans back from being a better overall coach. He was a great recruiter though given the history of our basketball program pre Richard Williams.
they got memphis tomorrow
