Have you ever considered that you may have been wrong from day one? That the guy has never been a candidate for the job and we are talking to other people. And you and others have pushed a narrative to fit facts rather than facts to fit a narrative. Y'all have fallen for every line of bullshit that has been thrown out there by by the college baseball media types. Sadly this is what happens every time, they throw out fresh meat and y'all gobble it up, and when it doesn't happen the guy we hire is a disappointment.

I've literally cautioned against this exact thing once a week since O'Conner's name first appeared. Because it happens every time a coaching search occurs, and it's not just a Mississippi State thing.

There were way too many sources out there saying he was a candidate, including UVA beat writers, for it to have been "wrong since day one."

Where did I say that? You would glean that. This is being run the right way that will hire a great coach. I don't think it was ever wrong that he was a candidate. But I think some got out over their skis thinking it was a done deal and we were just waiting for the ink to dry. He was a candidate and we spoke to his reps and backchanneled with him a bit. Just like we have already done with around 12-14 other candidates. WE NEVER FORMALLY SAT DOWN WITH HIM.

I didn't fall for anything. I said from the get go that we won't get the big name just like we didn't last time.
