That's all on Collins. That was an easy routine average third baseman play. He tried to snag it out of the air instead of trying to field it by getting behind it. He is not a third baseman. That was a little league play.

If it were up to me, I'm playing Hump or Stovall at 3B and putting Collins in LF or DH when Kruger gets healthy. He damn sure isn't ready defensively for 3B. Or it may be time for Collins to sit. Hump/Stovall at 3B, Rooker LF, Brown RF, Marrero C, Kruger DH. That's our best lineup offensively and defensively, imo.
We aren't good
Blake Smith to the pen
Dang, leave for 5 minutes where we are up 5-1 and now tied at 5-5. Looking like I may get a lot more free time this Spring. If we go to 1-3 this season is almost over before it starts.
I think it is time to move Reid to the cleanup spot and maybe put him back at third and put Kruger in OF and DH Collins IMO.
Please don't bunt!!!
And we bunted and the pitcher can't make the play!!! Why bunt the 7th place hitter who is hot in the third inning???
Kruger is a C. He's only DH this weekend because he's got a nagging injury. I expect he & Marrero to platoon and Kruger will DH when he isn't behind the dish. The obvious solution is Hump to 3B, Brown to LF/RF, and Collins to the bench/DH depending on who's behind the plate. DH when Kruger is back there, bench when it's Marrero.
Wes Johnson is not showing me much yet. We gave up 18 runs and 38 hits in the first 3 games and now have given up 5 runs in this one through only 3 innings.
1) He's only been here less than half an offseason. Butch had these guys all fall.
2) It has wayyyyyy more to do with the guys on the bump than what Wes is teaching them. They're throwing harder, but the control isn't there and they're showing the same mental fragility. Some guys you can fix, some you can't. We seem to have more of the latter. Just gotta wait for them to graduate.
3) The freshmen battle, so I'd expect to see the biggest difference with them.
Marrero, so far, is a major liability in the lineup.
Marrero has shown nothing so far... Hopefully he picks it up soon
Caught a break there because Robson could have been rung up. Instead we get the bases loaded walk.
Bart confirmed game time was moved up. Thought I saw it scheduled for 330. May partially explain the smaller crowd.
Jack "Freddy" Kruger continues his hot hitting, now 8-5.
This ump has a tight strike zone for what you normally see in college.
One positive: We're showing a lot of plate discipline this inning. We'd have been hacking and giving them free outs in years past. Now we're taking the walk and getting runs.
Back to back walks
10-5
And that'll do it for SDSU's pitcher. Another bases loaded walk to Collins, Dawgs expand the lead. 10-5 good guys.
The new pitcher just walked out of the stands I think***
So these guys...... Suck
WTF was Rooker thinking?!
If we had this approach with the freshman pitcher from Florida Atlantic yesterday, the result would have been much much different. We bailed that ****er out way too much by swinging and making contact on pitches you couldn't do much with even if you made good contact. Those pitches you have to lay off and if they call them strikes so be it.
Gridley grounds to 3B, Hump forced out at 2B.
11-5 Dawgs after 3.
FYI, teams have agreed to a 10-runs after 7 mercy rule. Keep that in mind moving forward, this could end early.
Houston is wild
IMO if we were to pitch houston against FAU they would have smoked us again. I dont know what to think of our starting pitching right now.
Two mean reach with two outs and Houston is done. Blake Smith taking the hill.
If SDSU hits Houston this hard, I can't imagine how LSU and Florida will send those 99 mph fastballs out of the yard and into the gaps. Heat is nothing if it's flat heat....D1 college kids can hit 99 mph with no movement and no control
