Losing should be a "for cause" reason to terminate the contract of a coach, if he or she is below a certain win percentage. Having to pay coaches to leave when they suck is stupid. College coaches have a gravy train. Contracts. They don’t have to compete on a daily basis because you owe them big money if you fire them. I go to work and compete every single day because I can be let go at any time. And yet 99% of these coaches never win anything. They are constantly rewarded for a lack of success. I’m not talking specifically about Jans, but rather the entire industry. Kiffin has never won a championship and he is pursued. It’s honestly crazy. But it is what it is.Quote:

Riley Kugel 17.7 ppg 2.6 rpg 3.1 apg at UCF
Mike Nwoko 19 ppg 5.4 rpg 76% FG at LSU
Martavious Russell 16.7 ppg 3.1 rpg 1.1 apg at ULM
Keshawn Murphy 12.4 ppg 5.4 rpg 1.8 apg at Auburn
To a lesser extent Kanye Clary and Trey Fort are both at 7 ppg at Oklahoma State and Michigan state respectively and I would take them both on this team right now. At the end of the day recruiting is what matters and keeping your best players matter as well. As you can see we lost alot of talent and didn't replace it well at all. Again I know money plays a factor now but according to some who have more insight, some of those players were offered what they wanted but still left. Of our new transfers the only one that gives me hope is Epps and on occasion Mcghee... hopefully we can get this thing turned around because one thing about basketball is we have plenty of time and opportunity to get back on track. It starts against SMU next game, we desperately need a solid non conference win.
Murphy got a nice raise to leave and we didnt really encourage Kugel to stay. Cant speak as to the other guys
Keeping Kugel instead of Jones doesn't fit Jans vision for this team. Even though with Hubbard - having high scoring outputs around him is what we need. It just is what it is with Jans at this point and his ceiling is clearly showing unless he re-invents himself.Quote:

Wow, we knew Keshawn would be a loss, but does anybody know how far off with NIL $ we were for Kugel and Nwoko? Several say Kugel was an attitude problem for the team, but the dude had talent when he was "on." I'm surprised Nwoko is doing so well at LSU, which makes me wonder why it seems a change of venue away from Starkville is what it takes for some other coach to get the most out of our players after they transfer - what are we doing wrong?Quote:

Kugel's stats were a little better last year than the year before- so was Nwoko's
And even tho Lemon couldnt keep the program where it needed to be- he brought in some great transfers that thrived for us- Reece, Purdue, Sully, Frei, Hugesack, Dohm, Ledbetter, etc

Broken record and we get worse at those year over year. I don't care what anyone says - Free throws are the easiest thing in the world to coach in an offseason. If you suck at it - shoot it granny style. It is mathematically easier to make. If a guy whines - then tell him he can go back to normal shooting when he's made 100 in a row from his normal stance.
Simple concept. Our coach doesn't value free points.
I can't comprehend how D-1 basketball players can't make free throws. This has been a staple of our team for half a decade now. Kickers are more accurate at 60+ yards than our players making free throws.Quote:
