That makes me feel much better. Selmon seems to get it.

I agree its been good for a long time but back in the 90s the Thursday night game was the game of the week on ESPN and Egg Bowl night became famous nationally because of that that decade. Kirk, Corso and Fowler did the game. It was huge; almost as big as getting gameday at that time.
It was probably more memorable for MSU fans because we won the SEC West in 1998, had the pass, pick, and kick in 1999, and then beat Eli in 2001. I don't think the rivalry really stood out to the rest of the country until 2019 when Elijah Moore pretended to be a dog and cost Ole Miss the Egg Bowl. Maybe 2018 when Abrams bitch slapped AJ Brown and started that brawl. Maybe a combination of the two. Leach and Kiffin was good for TV too. Football fans want to watch a match up like that.
And let's be honest - Elijah Moore probably would have went viral no matter when we played that game.
Same thing ended it last time. We started to suck under Jackie and ESPN put Texas and A&M and maybe West Virginia/Pitt on instead.
Like I said though- Thanksgiving is eventually going back to Texas/Texas A&M. This was going to happen eventually.
The 11am game last year was Tech and Georgia. Stop being such pussies and get over the damn night games. It?s not all that common these days. The TV people want 11am and 2:30 and 5 filled to the brim
That's true. The Iron Bowl is probably most commonly played at 2:30 if I had to guess.
Our fans have to stop making excuses about time as far as creating an awesome atmosphere.
"Well, we can't get up, can't see the LED lights, couldn't tailgate optimally, etc. "
Just show up and support the team.
I'm very happy it is off Thanksgiving.
At least it is NOT on Thursday. I have never liked the Thursday game.
Friday is fine regardless of the time slot.
Our fans want it played on Saturday. We only have two Saturday home games after Sept this year. The SEC and TV 17s is at every opportunity and we bend over and take it for the check. I'd just assume we tell tv to suck it and it not be televised this year anyway.
This is the hardest schedule I've ever seen and the hardest to sell to fans. It's time to stop treating the Egg Bowl like it's special too. Put the 17er on Saturday and be done. We need Saturdays in Starkville!
Our fans can want all they want for that game to be played on Saturday. It does not matter. If the SEC tells us we are playing it 2 PM on a Tuesday then whether there are 50 fans or 50,000 fans we will be playing at 2 PM on Tuesday. This fallacy that we get to choose when we want to play the egg bowl is exactly that, a fallacy.
Unless we start showing a couple of years of upward mobility and looking like we can be a good team, then the egg bowl is going to stay on Friday at 11 AM or maybe we get the 2:30 Friday slot one year. When we opted against continuing the game on Thanksgiving for a few years, we gave up all bargaining power with ESPN And the SEC.
We can absolutely tell the SEC what we want. It will fall on deaf ears as it always does, that's the whole point. We've gotten 17d over by the SEC these two years of expansion schedules. They couldn't have 17 us harder with a Clam Rattler 5000, with a 1000 HP engine.
I mean yeah I get that, I would also love it on a Saturday. It isnt an option. Our options were the thanksgiving slot where we are a national televised game with a lot of attention or taking our chances to say no to thanksgiving which ended up with us in the worst possible TV slot you could come up with.
This. On the most recent Thanksgiving game, I was the only one in the house with the Egg Bowl on. Everyone else was watching the NFL game.
We'll be there no matter the date or time. Want to be featured in a better time slot or date? Don't go 2-10 the previous season, 2-2 in OOC and 0-8 in the SEC. Will we even get to fire up our LED lights this season? Do they work at 11:00 AM?
I think it will all work out as long as om has an equally tough/easy game the week before as the DOGS. For years it always bothered me the years Dogs had a brutal SEC game and they always seemed to have a patsy........maybe my memory is just shot. I guess until the DOGS become a viable physical ball team again it probably won’t matter.
Sometimes yes and sometimes no. I'm pretty sure we played East Tennessee State before playing the Egg Bowl in 2022 while Ole Miss had Arkansas on the road. I definitely remember years where it was the other way around too.
That is another thing I didn't like about playing on Thanksgiving- it essentially gave both teams one less practice day a week to prepare for what is basically the biggest game in Mississippi. And yeah I know we focused some on Ole Miss the week we played ETSU but it's another distraction.
Would have been better if both teams had a bye week the Saturday before the Egg Bowl which would have given the players on both sides more time to rest and prepare for the Egg Bowl.
With it being on Friday or Saturday no it's not as big a deal.
