For the vast majority, if you really wanted to go to a game and get a gameday experience, it's possible, but yes it's going to cost you a little money, more if you want it to or want it to be more of a luxery experience. Plenty could pack lunches or dinner and tailgate. I've done that and had a great time... times with family that I'll never forget. That costs you very little and can be a great experience with your family. It's also going to cost you time. You will also be outside, so it might be hot, cold, or even have a chance at rain.
I hate spending money. I'm about as much of a tight wad as you'll find, but the one thing I spend money on in life is experiences and possible great memories. Great memories aren't something easily obtained in life and I try to collect all I can. My best memories are those out experiencing the world, not another day sitting on the couch. For me going to games provides a great chance at getting that, so I don't mind spending a little cash, and I really don't mind investing the time that would've otherwise just been another day at the house. I've got way too many of those days already.... But if that sh*t's not for you, that's fine too, but there are plenty of reasonable ways to make it happen if you cared at all about making it happen.
