The guy was in street clothes. He knows the temperature before he goes out. He can bring his own coat. It’s really really really not anyone’s fault but his own that he looked like a petulant child throwing a temper tantrum. No one else did what he did.
Not excusing Oliver's reaction. It was obviously childish and deserves a dropping in the draft but I also can't stand the coach that goes out of his way to show everyone he's the boss all the time and embarrasses a player on the sidelines by physically trying to enforce a very stupid rule during a cold night. Don't touch other players and try to remove the coat they are wearing. Both parties look bad here imo.
My take is Applewhite is correct but handled it at the wrong time and way completely (why they only have jackets for starters? Odd but if it?s a rule it?s a rule) and Oliver was completely over the top and petulant. An assistant or trainer or whoever couldn?t get Oliver to take it off during the game? They would have probably got butt chewed on the sideline from me for bringing that crap to me during a game while coaching. Your an adult with authority, handle it. I assume the game was still going on at the time?
At half time Oliver and I and the staff member involved will have a little heart to heart away from everyone else. Oliver will be told the jacket stays in the locker room during the second half because that is the rule for everyone. He will also be told there will be consequences for violating the rule and for disrespecting the coach. Probably not very gently either. He could accept that and be allowed back to cheer on his team, knowing punishment is coming or...that depends on how he still reacts to what he is being told at the time.
The coach and I will have another one on one about handling issues and what caused the escalation between them. Same with Oliver. Don?t do it on the sidelines, don?t do it in front of the team (players lash out a lot of times because they are embarrassed when it?s in front of their teammates). Be firm, remind him what the rule about jackets are and that he will pay a consequence for violating that rule. It will be worse because he did not do as instructed by a member of my staff.
Yep, everyone should just put himself above everyone else.
Then then would never have been any hero's.
Maybe even Jesus would not have died for the sin of the world.
We need to start a gofundne to buy them more coats. Poor guys
Oliver was once considered the #1 pick in the upcoming draft. His little tirade could drop him some spots and some big bucks.
If Oliver drops it helps our guy Jeffery Simmons.
If Simmons got to play against teams limes SMU for his conference championship I could only imagine what his stats and film would look like. To me, it says something that a 5 star player chose to go to a school in a conference where he would not be challenged. That is not good to me. He may just really love Houston, but he could have planed anywhere and chose to go play against really mediocre teams and be a really big fish in a minnow bucket.
