I think this has been discussed before but what came first, the SNL skit or the Buffett song Fins? If you are unfamiliar with the song, Landsharks are drunks hitting on a hottie in a bar.

White helmets are only cool if it's the school's / team's well established brand. If it's not, then changing to white just sucks.
