Totally agree with Todd. Fly into Memphis and stay in Tupelo. It's 2 hours from the airport to the stadium.
Don't listen to these numb nuts. Fly in to GTR rent a vehicle and stay in Columbus. We just got 4 new hotels right on hwy 82 next to the Cracker Barrel and Logans Steak House and one is set to open soon. All will have available rooms and are very nice. If they don't then check the Hyatt in Columbus also. Go eat at Hucks FRiday night. Drive to Starkville the next morning. 20 minute drive straight shot from Columbus to Starkville.
If you can get a flight into Nashville, they run a flight to Tupelo for about $40 each way. So Nashville>Tupelo may be a valid option if you don't want to pay the steep price of flying into GTR. As already mentioned though, flying into GTR is by far the closest.
Otherwise, Memphis is 2.5 hours away, Birmingham is about the same. If you're going to rent a car then those are your best easy bets.
If it's your officials tell them to fly to PIB, go southwest on the interstate go south on HWY 49 for a few miles. Stadium is on the right. can't miss it.
Show me the money. That's the difference. Memphis & Birmingham are tier 2 airports and Jackson/GTR are tier 3. The higher the tier the higher the cost. Consider flying from SLC to ATL (tier 1), rent a car and drive to Starkville via I-20 and US 82 about 290 miles. I would come into ATL on a Thursday early evening and drive to Carrollton, GA off of I-20 to spend the night (they have a Marriott Courtyard and others). This is so you are not in ATL rush hour traffic Friday morning. Drive to Starkville Friday morning to avoid the Saturday game day traffic near Tuscaloosa & Starkville on US82. Stay at Columbus or West Point (America's Best Value Inn). Depart Starkville back to ATL on Sunday.
I wouldn't do the Tupelo airport. That service is on a 9 seat aircraft. I think you have to purchase a separate ticket and have to claim and then re-check your bags. GTR is closest and has good service but as has been point out there won't be any hotels available in the Triangle. I'd fly into Memphis and stay in Tupelo. 2nd would be Jackson. You could check at the Pearl River resort for a hotel. It's an indian casino resort about 45 minutes or so from Starkville.
I always fly GTR. Always. It might be 100-200 extra but by the time you deal with ATL or MEM traffic plus the drive and then The drive back I consider it an extra $100-$200 well spent. I can sleep in get there 45 minutes before take off and go. Easy and convenient.
It takes 15 minutes to get from Columbus to the GTR airport. About the same to Starkville. Cheaper hotel in Columbus but better food options in Starkville.
He's watching Portland State hang with his Coogs right now. Trip subject to change
BYU having a little trouble with that Portland State bunch.
Yeh I'm gonna go ahead and mark a W for that game
And I'll say it again. Why would a team like LSU hire Coach Orgeron? That is like us hiring Coach Croom. Heck, Coach Croom had a winning record against Orgeron.
I'll admit it. I was one of the ones that thought he would be a good DC. I since recant my viewpoint that he would be a good DC. With that said, he would be a better DC then Peter Sirmon. But then again a three year old who has a vocabulary of ten words would be a better DC then Peter Sirmon. 14% of the coaches in the SEC are Coach O and Coach Luke at Ole Miss. The coaches in the SEC suck ass. Mullen pretty much is the second best coach in the SEC. When Saban came here in 2007, there were five SEC coaches who had won at least one national title. This year there is only one. The Saban Effect is in full force in this league.
If you are having problems with Portland State (WTH??), I think you might be in for a long day in Starkville. Just a heads up.
