What's the market price gonna be for a player like that in 5 more years? 10 million? 15 million?
If the theory that you can't win expect by buying the best players then yeah that is true. Indiana says hi.
Jackie and Mullen both won at MSU in other ways - it wasn't getting the 5 star players. MSU just has to adapt and continue to get really good players with good attitudes and lot of upside to win. We have done it and can continue to do it. We'll get the occasional top recruit - Kamario, etc. but the Kelly Jones of the world are out there too.
We're going to have to start recruiting and doing things conventionally. There isn't as much talent in JUCO anymore because of the portal. Players are better off starting at USM to prove themselves. Dan's method won't work either because we can't just tell a guy to sit on the bench for three years and wait their turn because again- they're better off going to USM and playing.
I think we have the right idea but our fans aren't patient enough to see it through. Take as many four star Mississippi guys as we can and fill in the gaps with the portal. Our fans think that everyone has to be able to play now but there is some level of development still. We need to get a more manageable schedule too. Which is better this year. A lot of it is timing honestly.
Guaran-damn-tee you that Lebby wouldn't have won a NC with Indiana's team. It's not all about money dude. It's not all about how shitty Starkville is.
University of I is in Bloomington. Has way more population at the school and the town compared to Starkvegas. But Indiana as a state has a shit ton more flagship universities and schools compared to the state of Mississippi. They have more of an excuse for their shitty football history. Coaching matters to evaluate the talent and buy the talent. Lebby had a bag of money and still couldn't entice a top portal player to come here.
Indiana’s football budget is definitely bigger than ours, but no one has come out and said how big their total player payroll really was for that championship team. I’ve only heard a number about their qb. I would really like to know their player payroll for the year before!
When basically every team is rebuilt every year, I would think a coach that teaches fundamentals on an elite level will have a good to great team every season.
Matt Wyatt said yesterday that we need to concentrate on high character guys that don't want the money and will not transfer and that talent should be secondary.
Keep this man as far away from recruiting as possible. That may work at North Dakota State but it's a recipe to kill your program at Mississippi State.
We should work hard to become the oldest team in the SEC
