I've never understood the Gene Stallings slander. Maybe it's because I was young, but I always thought he was a very good coach. As you say, they win SEC Championships and a natty with him in charge. And he punched out his AD after the 96 State game. 😂

No shit. Gene Stallings is a legend. He won Natty as an underdog with one of the best defenses ever. The D was led by the defensive savant of his time, Bill Oliver. He had a shitty quarterback and went undefeated that year, beating Florida and then Miami.

There is a 17n statue of him outside Bryant Denny. He?s the shit.
