If you're going the art way, make him HC, not OC
Meh, I think the "Gotta win with class" people are mostly fine with Briles. It's the "enabling rapists is never OK" crowd who isn't.
Think about this - EVERYONE gets a second chance. No matter how big of a scandal a coach has, no matter how many schools he's left in shambles or on probation, somebody hires him. Sexual misconduct scandal? Nobody cares. Literally leave bruises and bite marks all over your wife? Welcome to Oxford! Provide hookers to players and underage recruits? Get hired by Christian universities like Liberty, Iona, and St. John's!
Everyone gets a second chance ... except Art Briles. The man is radioactive in a way that no one else is. He couldn't get an assistant OC job in Canada. He couldn't get an assistant position at Grambling. There must some even darker secret about him that isn't widely known that prevents him from being able to work anywhere.
I just want to win. That is the difference. I really do not care what you do off the field. Not my problem and not my issues to deal with. I am not paid to handle that. I want to see us win ON THE FIELD. What you do OFF THE FIELD does not concern me. Does that make me a bad person? Probably so. But I really do not care. It is not my job to care.
I mean, I'm not going criticize you for it. I myself didn't have it in me to cancel my season tickets like a few people I know. I asked them if they would come back on board if Lebby won here, and they insisted that they would not. Of course, we'll never know at this rate. I just hope they and the rest of the people like them will come back for the next coach.
And that is the difference between winning programs and us. Programs that are all in continue to support and know that the money people and the administration will make a change if one is needed. OM fans figured this out with Matt Luke. They kept giving, kept supporting, kept showing up, and the money guys made the move to cut bait. That made them an attractive job when the market opened. And they were able to point to that when interviewing Kiffin. We cannot point to that.
Our fans treat supporting the program like going to play golf. Conditions have to be ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. Game time cannot be too early, Game time cannot be too late, their seats have to be in prime locations but they do not want to pay too much(or at all) for them, they will only give to NIL unless they get something in return, if the coach does not play the Mississippi kid they are not going to support, etc. Like our fans make up reasons daily why they are not supporting. Actual programs do not do that. Florida took 5K fans to Oxford and THEY DO NOT EVEN HAVE A COACH. Hell they got beat 37-7 by freaking Kentucky last week. They still showed up ON THE ROAD.
The thing is we do not have to be that poor fanbase. I would imagine that out of the 40K State fans at the EB on Black Friday, 25K do not donate to NIL. If you could get those people giving $25/month, which is nothing honestly, that is an extra 7.5 mil a year. It is buy in. Not poor or small.
I don't really see how people can simultaneously say you can't criticize Lebby unless you can personally fund his buyout, and then also criticize the entire fanbase for not supporting him enough.
Seems contradictory. "Want to see a change that I don't like? Fund it entirely yourself!" and "Why won't everyone else do a better job of funding the changes I do want??"
you grouped a fan base as a gold crowd.
I don't think that represents the majority.
For NIL. season tickets, BC club, IMO is MSU rebuilding in several areas after Cohen and BS to fans too many times.
IF anything, the MSU fans are not a cult where they buy into crap like some other schools. It is changing for the good and going a good direction now.
The majority are not giving. I can look at the numbers and tell you that. That is not opinion it is fact based. We have over 150K living alumni and just a shade over 50K Bulldog Club members. Of that number, about 5-10K are not active members. So I can tell you that a majority are not giving an I am correct.
