Agree on Candle. Flat out good coach.
The North TX coach is getting alot of press for winning fast there, but also a great QB evaluator.

I'm going tentatively throw Jimbo Fisher on here at #16.
I know, I know. He was really bad in his last 2 years at Texas A&M: 13-11 (6-9) and fired. But he's been out of coaching for 2 years, addressed his mental health issues, and is ready to get back into coaching and give 100%. It would be a high-risk, high-reward type of hire, but it's one we should at least consider. It's not like he's going to LSU, Florida, or Penn State. We could get him.
Dave clawson seems to have figured out NIL now. I'd call him, too. Guys that win with less are the ones we need to talk to
In this day and age of college football why would any of these guys come here? Not enough NIL, very very difficult to build depth. Portal used is as a stepping stone to for monied programs. Never a full stadium, people stay away in droves. Divided alumni base constantly infighting for control, incapable of getting even close to singing from the same sheet of music. Constant change in the athletic administration. Facilities are at the bottom of the league. And with just those few things against you, you have to play in the toughest league in college football where you will be served up the most brutal schedule possible. You come to a place where constant failure on the football field has breed a horrible culture. This place is a very hard sell.
MSU football is a recipe for disaster. Why would any real qualified coach follow where so many have failed?
No I don?t. These guys wont just jump at money. If they are that kind of guy, is that someone we really want. We better be looking for a guy that can see the bigger picture and can judge all side before they jump. Why would they come here when they can wait and get a safer gig in the ACC or big 12?
"Why would we hire a guy who would want to come here when there are better jobs available in the ACC and Big 12?" is one of the strangest takes I've ever read on this board.
Does getting fired by MSU actually knock you down a rung?
Moorhead PSU OC - State HC - Oregon OC
Arnett SDSU DC - State DC - State HC - UNLV DC - Wendeez
These guys aren't fearful it ruins their career if they come here. Napier was just weird and wanted LSU. Few coaches share his sentiment.
Brent Vigen makes $400,000 per year and wins a whole lot of games in obscurity. If we offer him 10x his annual salary to come coach in the most prominent conference in America, I can't imagine he'll turn it down. I don't have any insider knowledge confirming that, but come on.
He's probably going to be head coach of Oregon State next year ... unless we reach out to him before he signs.
Safer, is very different than better. But don?t let that stop you pushing your agenda. And continue to discount every single other aspect of the original post. That is why we can?t have nice things. Don?t pay attention to the details, don?t let important details get in the way, that?s the Missippy Tate way. We?ve been do successful with this approach.
It?s not defeatist, it just the facts. Something that most will never realize. You live in a fantasy world that doesn?t exist for us. The post is to point out the fact that this is why we have historically hired coordinators. And will most likely hire one the next time we have to make a hire. We are a very hard sell for a head coach. If it were so easy we could have just picked anyone the last time we had to make a hire. I?ll let you in on a secret, it wasn?t that easy.
We hired Lebby because our AD new him personally from his prior job and for whatever reason liked him. Not because literally every G5 and FCS head coach turned us down.
Again, it's completely delusional to think all of these guys on the list would say "No, I don't want to double/triple/dectuple my current salary." Maybe a couple of them would for personal and private reasons, but all of them? No way.
Brent Vigen is about to head to Oregon State. He's not committed to freezing in obscurity at Montana State forever. He would take our job and the salary that comes along with it.
Believe what you want but that?s not how it went down. It was far from that simple. But it?s easy to believe things like this. Even though it ended that way. Believing is easy, it takes no effort, it reinforces an already existing mindset, knowing is hard and requires more than following the path of least resistance and is rarely simple. One day you will take off those maroon colored glasses and see the situation for what it is. Until the be prepared for more and more disappointment. Because it is inevitable.
