I think they totally forgot about it!!

probably too much celebratory trump drink
If you gave both guys the 2009 situation for MSU: basically a dead program
(1) We know that Cohen would have you in the National Championship game by 2013.
(2) Lemonis would have maybe made Hoover once or twice. A regional once or so.
Vitello and Van Horne are elite, lemons is pretty much ok. If lemons were good, Texas would have been calling last year. They broke the bank and decency codes for an elite guy, Schlossnagle.
Don't think he is capable of building a team that is capable of winning a championship? ....I would say that the 21 was built by him.....the ENTIRE pitching staff was his recruits and signees... with the exception of Jordan and Allen ...there were no other contributors from the team he inherited.... Hatcher was a detriment. While you can argue that Jordan and Allen were key, you can't say that the pitching wasn't the heart and soul of that team. all of which were recruited by him.
CWS Title > anything Polk did. Title trumps all. You can give Polk credit for longevity and building the program. But he was never as successful as Lemon or Cohen.
Lemon is just entering his 6th season and he has a title. He was cheated in 2020 of possibly another because that team was possibly our best of all-time. They got cheated so badly. You are comparing 29 seasons of Polk vs 5 seasons of Lemon. Polk had 6 CWS seasons in 29 seasons- Lemon has a title and 2 in 5 seasons.
It's ok that you like Lemons, end of the day, he's the coach MSU has. I hope he does better than I expect him to do.
I think the championship prejudice becomes relevant at 3 to 5 championships like Skip Bertman. The singleton guys can't really claim better track records than Polk, Mike Martin, or Schlossnagle. I would have traded our singleton for Vitello before last year, Vitello has been clearly superior for several years now. The new Oregon State dude is a potential giant.
We have had 6 50 win seasons in baseball.
Polk has 3 of those. Cohen has 1. Lemonis has 2. So he has one less than Polk and has a very good chance to tie him at some point.
Polk coached in a different era. The SEC had never won a NC in baseball until 1990. We had never even won a game ever in Omaha until 1979. If I went in a Time Machine and kidnapped 1984-1990 Ron Polk we probably have some NC's with him.
Lemonis's biggest issue is we have fans hung up on Vitello. But i guarantee you that if we hired him our fans would immediately try to neuter him and his antics like they complained about Cohen's cussing. But now Lemonis doesn't show enough emotion to many of those same fans. Our fans can't decide what they want other than the complete opposite of what MSU has at that time.
I think the reality is Lemonis is still growing as a coach. Can he win another NC? Maybe. He's starting to recruit at a high enough level to have a chance to do it. Winning a NC is hard in baseball. Ask Arkansas and Florida State.
We're probably never going to lose a head baseball coach to Texas. Our job is as good or better. Heck- they pulled Garrido from a mid major in Cal State Fullerton and before Schlossnagle their coach came from Tulane. Schlossnagle is a Texas guy and that whole thing was weird.
I have high hopes for this team as well, especially from the the pitching staff....
Our hitting coach, on the other hand....doesn't have me particularly brimming with confidence. Is there another gear we can expect to see from Gautreau this season, or nah?
