OM would hire him back in a heartbeat.
Just for the **** of it..
Freeze - Aub.. still can’t believe Memphis didn’t close that deal with Hugh.. I guess Fed Ex has more pull at Oxford than Memphis
Rich Rod and brings in JRP - USM ( and that should happen if Jermey McClain had any pull as AD)
Urban - Texas.. if his “Health” is ok..
Odom / Briles combo - Cocks ..
Riley - Houston Texans
Kiffin - Oklahoma
Mark Richt- OM
Like I said .. just for the **** of it...
And yes Hugh is a solid coach for sure
But everyone does understand that Turner Gill went 6-6 the first year liberty made the jump from FCS to D1 in 2018
That’s just as impressive IMO
I'll take a stab at this:
Auburn- Freeze. There's too much smoke already
USCe- Boom. I somehow think he's going to find a way to keep his job...at least til next year. Then I think it's Napier.
Texas-Urban. This one is already signed, sealed, delivered.
USM- Will Hall. This needs to be the hire. They don't have the money for Rich Rod and Hall would immediately make them competitive again.
Texans- Mullen. If he's gonna make the jump this is his shot.
Florida-Mark Stoops
Kentucky- Barry Odom/Briles
And to make things really crazy....MSU OC-Art Briles. And yes this is a rumor I heard yesterday.
I doubt this happens, but it's worth noting that Art Briles owes his career to Leach, who gave him his first college job when Leach made him his RB coach at Tech for 3 years.
Not sure of their current relationship, but I fairly likely that Leach and Briles do have some sort of significant relationship.
In many way, Kendall Briles coming to Starkville, if only for year, would help Leach turn the air raid 1.0 into the Air Raid 2.0. Would be a great fit
The relationship is there, but I'm very skeptical. If anything it could've just been a name thrown out to calm people down knowing there's no way it happens. I mean Cohen handled what I would consider a media rain shower poorly with the Leach tweet. I seriously doubt he could handle the media firestorm that would come with hiring Art Briles. However, if Leach would agree to bringing in an OC I think you'd have to give him a look. Off the field issues aside, he's a hell of a play caller.
Bo Bounds must be getting some kick backs as well. He has a raging "clue" for Freeze all week.
I don't see how the SEC Office could actually stop an SEC school from hiring Freeze, but they could highly recommend, if they wanted too, that a school doesn't hire him. If you are an SEC school, I doubt you want to not have the blessings of the SEC Office, and/or be on their bad list.
Right now, I could argue that Greg Sankey is the most powerful man in not just college football, but all of college athletics. If all the stuff is true about Sankey not liking Freeze is true then any athletic dept. that hires him in the SEC is asking to be screwed at every juncture for the entirety of his employment. No amount of Sexton marketing and Hugh's second chance speeches would help that. I'd imagine Sankey feels that Hugh put a black mark on the conference with the scandal and he doesn't want to give him another chance to do it again. Also, the average football fan only knows about 5-10% of the stuff that was going on in Oxford during Freeze's tenure. And as plugged in as he is, HE KNOWS IT ALL.
Freeze would have a longer leash at Auburn by the NCAA. I could see him making Auburn as good as Bama for a few years, but eventually the probation will come.
Sankey wouldn't say squat about Auburn hiring freeze. It would mean another SEC playoff team and more money for the sec.
Auburn cheats like all the other SEC schools do, just on steroids. And the SEC retreads cheaters all the time.
But yet the SEC intervened when Alabama looked at hiring Hugh. Which seems to indicate there's something else the SEC knows about with Hugh.
The only caveat to that is that supposedly a lot of massage parlors use trafficked women that are basically sex slaves, so maybe Sankey views the escort thing as something akin to rape and therefore personally hates Freeze.
