there are very little adjustments offensively outside of a few guys who are just crushing. What made us so good last year is that you couldn't get our hitters out the same way the second time through. Good offensive players don't get beat the same way over and over without making some adjustments
From what I could see on the strikeouts the umps were horrible this weekend.
games in the league........Pitching is thin, bottom part of the line up is bad......We're only as good as Pilkington and the top 4 in the lineup can take us.........
Well, Ole Miss lost 4 straight, so there's that.
Have we not seen enough of Graham Ashcraft to move him to the bullpen? I dont want that kid to start another game.
Todd didn't really say that. Todd DID say that RIGHT NOW we are third in the SEC in home runs, lead the SEC in steals and are hitting .298 coming into the game which I believe was around seventh in the SEC. Todd DID say that someone is focusing way too much on how many times we struck out and not enough on the fact that we also have more extra base hits and are hitting better than we were at this time last year- despite losing a lot of players.
The fact of the matter is we scored five runs today and yesterday- that's a respectable amount for any offense. We also came back on them and gave ourselves a chance to win. I'm not going to complain about that. We lost today because we started a freshman who gave up four runs early and belongs in the bullpen.
You're still wrong, but at least you admitted that you misquote me, so I can respect that.
Our coach HAS TO figure out our roles on the pitching staff. I think we're getting closer to that though- Cyr looked good and it was good to see Rigby back even though he threw a critical wild pitch. He HAS TO stop starting Ashcraft and I thought based on his interview this week that he was going to start using him in the bullpen.
If we go with Pilkington, Plumlee, and start Self on Sundays and then use Cyr, Price, Barton, Rigby, and Ashcraft out of the bullpen and then we keep scoring our five runs a game- we will be more than fine. Even if we lead the SEC in K's. Why don't you talk about the fact that our team ERA is OVER 5 coming into the weekend and yet we are in the top half of the SEC in most offensive categories- but yet, hitting is the problem?
I think it's coming sooner than later. They mentioned using him as a closer before this weekend. He does not know how to pitch right now and doesn't have the secondary stuff to use even if he does. He will get there- but he's far from a finished product right now. It's frustrating to me personally because I've been saying he should be in the pen for months now.
Unfortunately- and I hate this- the NCAA has cracked down on baseball coaches arguing with umpires. Which is bullshit. But you basically can get ejected one time a year and even then the school gets fined and after that I think the coach gets suspended plus fined. That's why Cohen would argue with the umpires from time to time but he wouldn't get kicked out of the game as often as Polk did.
