Hubbard scored but got abused on D
Played soft for almost the entire game
Should have played more zone- they killed us driving to the basket
Murphy getting the 2 fouls early really hurt
Missed too many open shots
I would have called a TO to set up something for Hubbard or a 2nd option in an attempt to get a better look at the end
I’m not gonna dog Hubbard, what really hurt today was we couldn’t get help defending the driving inside, got killed on Baylor getting offensive rebounds and the biggie was costly turnovers.
Without Hubbard we get by double digits, his defense didn’t cost us the game. Hope we don’t lose him next year.
In the 2nd half Hubbard stopped shooting for about. Why?
Hubbard not shooting the last shot is coaching malpractice .
People dogging Hubbard is typical of State fans.
Crazy, yes.
But typical.
Since Hubbard will be back next season, maybe it's time to really learn to play zone
Listened to some of Jans press conference and honestly kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Said making the tournament was a big deal and then basically stated reasons why we should've gone further when trying to say why it was their goal to make it. I mean yea you made it and it's a lot better than the end of Stans, Ray, or Howland eras but you were in a conference that put 14 of the 16 teams in the tournament and a couple got in just because they were in the conference. Your goal should've been to win a game in the tourney and then let the chips fall where they may. We fell short of that goal. To take the next step, you're goal has to be to win in the tournament. I think Jans is still thinking like a mid major coach.
Is Hubbard defense really being blamed for this loss?
Really?
Really?
Insanity
Sorry I was seeing in the ?Hubbard got abused on D?
And
?We should consider paying zone if we keep Hubbard?
Thoughts
Basket is more of a team sport, chemistry is so important, I think with NIL and portal it’s very hard unless you can sign 2 or3 good freshmen. It’s much easier with elite blue bloods.
In saying this our team chemistry sucked.
I think Jans had the right idea in what type of roster he was trying to build I just think Kugel being an absolute headcase and Melendez regression over course of season was biggest reasons for the downfalls.
Harris was a good get and so was Nwoko. On paper and when he is on Kigel was a fantastic get and Melendez was a dawg at start of year. I mean it is up to him to get their potential out of them but he had the right vision. In NIL era it is looking like the character of player is just as or more important than their talent and physical tools.
That Cam foul at the 1 min mark really messed us up. I thought it was a clean steal. Hubbard taking the inbound with only ~12 seconds seemed odd to me. Why not set him up for the shot off a pass? He is a great catch and shoot guy.
Not even really depressed on this one. We were an inconsistent team with no identity all year long. I really think they underachieved. We had 3 good big guys, 2 guards who can 'shoot' and a 3 who can drive and play D.
ETA: We really needed a true PG this year.
We were really awful to end the year and Jans needs to own it rather than just trying to make us feel good we got in. Didn't win anything after the A&M game other than beating an LSU team twice that had essentially quit. One of the most disappointing ends to a season I can remember.
