Booth ahead of fluff on depth chart come August?
Probably, but not by much. I hope they both end up with 850 plus yds next season
Fluff and Booth are different kind of backs correct? Fluff is more of a bruiser, right?
I heard on the radio this afternoon that the NCAA is pretty much giving past JUCO players a free year until this whole thing gets settled.
I don't get why Kelly A doesn't get another year?
Anthony Evans visiting tomorrow
Lebby is restocking this team tremendously.
Evans is a priority for this staff. If we could roll out Evans, Brenan Thompson, Williams, and Mosley I think that would be an above average receiver group.
By this analogy, State would have passed on Jerry Rice because he ran a 4.6. Oh yeah. State DID pass on Jerry Rice. Never Mind.
But seriously, can you snap your fingers? If so, you are still slower than the time difference between 4.3 and 4.5! There is only 1 time a 4.3 40 affects a measurable difference from a 4.5 40. In a 100 yard dash. 4.6 DBs have been smothering 4.4 receivers for years upon years. Historically State receivers couldn't get free of DBs if they had BO and Bad Breath. Meanwhile, our DBs are usually in a different time zone than the receivers they are assigned to cover. Soooo.... YEP.... Route running is what separates the 4.5 guys. Give me 4 of them.
And if I thought this guy was Makai Polk I would have no problem with it. He is not though. Heck I have been in this very thread saying I would be ok taking a kid if he was 4.5-4.6 and a great route runner. Now maybe I have watched his 7 worst games but I do not see a guy who gets out of his breaks very fast.
And hey, maybe it is all a moot point. We are bringing in Ayden and still have Sanfrisco and Rickey Johnson, both of whom I am very high on.
Polk is another guy. He had 36 receptions total in two years at Cal. He comes to Mississippi State in Mike Leach's offense and catches 105 passes and 9 TDs. Kevin Coleman had 26 receptions at Louisville and gets 74 in Lebby's offense.
So, I'm not concerned that we aren't bringing in someone that has caught 100 passes for this scheme. I'm more concerned with bringing in WRs that have speed, body control, agility, and the attitude that the if the ball is in the air, it is their ball.
So, I look at our WR room right now and see:
Stonka Burnside
Brennan Thompson
Ayden Williams
Jordan Mosely
Jaron Glover
Ricky Johnson
Cam Thompson
Sanfrisco Magee
I know I'm probably missing some names, but if we add Anthony Evans to that list, that's as talented a WR room as we have ever had at Mississippi State based on just talent. I agree that the production isn't there, but there is definitely talent.
