Yeah right! He?s from Macon, MS. Played in a low level, low football IQ conference, and he?s going to step in and be ?somewhat? productive in the best collegiate conference in the country vs the best DC?s in NCAA football. Tell me how much it cost to go to Starkville for a football weekend. Nobody?s willing to waste their money on a ?freshman experiment? in the NIL era! We would have lost by 3 TD?s with him running the offense tonight. MS high school football is not a spring board for players to start their freshman year in this conference! There?s absolutely no one you can use as an example at the QB position to make that argument! Dak was not ready as freshman, neither was Tebow.
Do you really think a kid from Noxubee county that is by far the best athlete on the field on any given night can step on an SEC field and produce wins in this conference as the leader of the offense??? The game is so much faster and physical than playing MS high school football, it?s not even comparable. KT has got the POTENTIAL to be good, maybe great (at MSU), but he?s not mentally capable of leading an SEC team his true freshman year. All it takes is one solid hit, and he?s questioning his abilities. It?s maturity first, athleticism and God?s gift come in second!
You just don?t get it bc you?ve never played at that level. A HS qb can read coverages somewhat at a high school level, but SEC is way different. It?s not even comparable. I like your informational posts, but REAL football posts are not your forte. Start KT vs FL, aTm, GA, OM, Texas and guess what, everyone of you on this board will throwing his ass under the bus for bad decisions/results. MS high school football is not going to prepare ANY qb to be be a starter as a true freshman?.PERIOD!!!! You can?t win that argument EVER! The only thing you will win is the bitchfest that will follow!
Let?s be clear as well, Shapen is not quick making decisions, but his experience at this level makes a difference. KT is used to getting hit by smaller less physical players in high school. When he tucks it and runs, then gets lit up a few times by some grown ass men in the SEC. That ?scrambling/making things happen with his feet? will be tempered down a bit, especially if he realizes that he doesn?t like being hit by more physical defenders. The mental/physical aspect of playing in the SEC is real, and it can ruin a player.
No one is saying that Kamario is better than Blake right now, at least I have not seen it. What most are saying is that you are winning 5 regardless because Parker Puckett could start against Arky and just hand the ball off and we would win. So why not give Kamario the reps now and get him ready to go next year. And hell, you may steal 1-2 because no one has any film on him. Are we going to take our lumps? Yes. But guess what, we are going to take them with Blake too.
The only time MSU ever beat a #1 team , we did it with a Freshman QB.there is nothing Shapen can do that Kamario can’t do better.
Nobody wants to spend the weekend in Starkville for a freaking freshman experiment when the portal is available for immediate ROI. Jesus, where in the 17 have you been lately? ?It?s not what can you do for me in the future, it?s what can you do for me NOW!!? Nobody wants to drop a grand a weekend for football/baseball for future gains. They want immediate ROI. Welcome to collegiate sports!
No. What will happen is he will look lost and lose more games. And then fans will start to say that he is a bust.
I've seen this story play out time and time again for MSU football.
Except for Dak who we redshirted first. And then he was the back up for year and a half or so. And then he started.
Hell the two turnovers weren't even his fault. Why not bench West who has at least one major **** up a game at TE? He should have caught that pass that was picked. And why not bench the tackle that got worked when Shapen fumbled?
I am not saying you completely replace Shapen and never look back. When I say give Kamario a chance I am saying give him a series or give him 3-4 plays on a drive in a row. Get him in the flow of a game other than just straight run left or run right in short yardage.
Correct. 2 defensive touchdowns from Shapen. The OL did end up beat up and weren?t great, but they didn?t make Shapen fumble or throw the pick 6. Or under throw Ayden Williams so
Bad on one of the last drives. It?s a touchdown and he missed it. He has been bad for a month now
Did you watch the game? Our left tackle got worked when Shapen fumbled. That is partially or really mostly on the o-line. They can't just let a guy get a free rush at the QB like that. West should have caught that pass. He tipped it up and it got intercepted. Not totally on Shapen either.
I'm never going to complain abound play that gets 50 yards.
I totally understand that at the beginning of the season Shapen was better. However, every day KT practices and plays he's gaining ground on Shapen. This isn't that old school football we played where Qb's had to do everything. They have a mic in their helmet talking to them right upto the snap telling them what to do. You also can't fake football getting tackled is part of the game and the kid has "IT". That's ability, confidence, and the mental fortitude. Do you not remember what our former true freshman did last year when Shapen got hurt? He led the SEC in passing and touchdowns against Texas, Georgia, and others in the month of October. He did that cold right off the bench. KT has that ability and more. Lebby's offense make Qb's shine with his structure and pressure on defenders. It simplifies reads and produces wide open plays which any legit Qb can take advantage of.
He hasn't done any of that so far when given the opportunity. That's all we can go off of. And Lebby has even more to go off of in practice. To me, it's very obvious why he isn't playing. He can't read defenses. If he starts now our offense becomes extremely predictable.
Lebby can't make him make the right read in game.
Gotta give our freshman some snaps going forward. Actually, when we were in OT, I would insert him in the game when we were on the 4 yard line with first down. His speed outside may have opened up inside run game with their defense not bunched up and scared of Shapen getting outside.
When he comes into the game he literally has been given 3 designed plays. If you and I know what's about to happen you don't think the defense knows as well? Him not throwing the ball was because they knew the play and had it covered. The worst thing to do would be force it anyways and get an interception.
There is a bigger picture with a silver lining.
1) Tennessee should have beaten Georgia. I believe they were and are the better team.
2) We played them to a draw in regulation and our offense outscored there offense by 2 TDs in regulation. State is better, but not quite there yet.
3) State still lacks the discipline on both sides and the penalties were extremely costly. On 2 of their long drives, we gave them 30 yards in penalties. Not only unacceptable but requires some intense discipline to correct.
4) State will find a way to win another home game and a road game.
5) whether Bowl Games are important or not is irrelevant for this team and this program. We need post season play for the program and for the Fanbase. And if the Fanbase doesn't show up regardless of where the Bowl Game is, then WE don't deserve a winning program!
A bunch of things can be true at the same time.
That was an insanely frustrating loss. Should have won it. The play calling and play of Shapen on the last drive of regulation and in OT were just not nearly good enough. I think we should have seen KT in at the 5 in OT.
Shapen is a good QB with some real weaknesses but is our best option. Also we can find more opportunities to use KT.
One thing I have not seen anyone mention that I think does matter is that getting a good P5 starting QB in the portal and then having a freshman who is not better take over for him is not a great way to get future QBs out of the portal.
Well they tell me the true freshman is better than the former 4 star recruit we got from FSU in the Portal! And many here think the true freshman is the better choice to get us to a Bowl Game this year!
But help me understand how Kromenhauk hasn't
even gotten in more than 3 plays against Alcorn.
The QB Whisperer at the school up north thought Austin Simmons was the better QB until he was FORCED to play the backup. And the backup has only set an SEC record for combination passing yards and rushing yards in his first 3 games as a starter. How does Lebby really know what Kromenhauk can do in live game action. He never gets even a series to move the team
