Keonte Shad, whats the word on him. I know nothing about him. OL?
DT Juco. Found him.
I know many keep saying "we will be fine" when discussing our DT's. But let's be honest, we lose Grant Harris, Tre Brown, Braxton Hoyett, and Cory Thomas. Redshirt freshman James Jackson moved to OL. Obviously Simmons will probably leave early for the NFL. So Lee Autry is the only returning player who has taken any snaps (other than the allowed 4 games to redshirt). So assuming we don't move a defensive end to the inside, it could be Lee Autry lining up next to a freshman such as Crumedy or Lovett. I think defensive line depth is so important in this league. I'm all for throwing a JUCO DT body into the mix.
Spencer will play DT too.
He’s 285/290 now.
Experience is my concern. Unless you are a freak like Chris Jones or Jeffrey Simmons, this league will eat freshmen defensive linemen alive. I would like to see a JUCO signee. You can't have too many bodies.
Our defensive line was awesome this year. And it wasn't just because of talent. Depth played a huge role.
Pickering will come in and play. He's the next Cox, Jones, Simmons.
Pick, Lovett, Moore, Crumedy, etc should be a damn solid DT group going forward.
We'll take a couple of steps back in 2019, but have a chance to be elite again in 2020 & 2021
I wouldn't be shocked to see us get a grad transfer on the DL.
Baker is earning a good reputation that may be worth a solid prospect spending a year with to see if they can up their draft stock
Steve say in the Boneyard:
2019 OL Matt Bedford likely commits today. He's on campus.
Miami making a run at Emerson. He's visiting this weekend. "That's a little concerning" Steve says bc that's our CB's in the class.
Arky getting a visit from Greg Brooks. He could flip.
Keonte Schad was here this past weekend.
De'Monte Russell visiting Ole Miss - Steve ain't worried.
18-19 kids on campus this weekend looking to complete this class
Emerson OV to MSU this weekend. He's scheduled to OV Miami the 15th.
Brooks has already OV to Arkansas he'll OV to MSU this weekend.
As we head into the homestretch before the early signing period who do we have to be worried about on flip watch? Are Emerson, Brooks and Russel the main ones we're a little concerned about or are there others?
So the news on D. Hall wasn't all that great today. I thought we were trending up with him - anybody have any idea what the deal is there?
You need to remember that some of our commits have absolute morons in their ears.
Not concerned with Hall and OM.
Oh I'm not concerned with Hall and OM either, I just can't take it as a good sign he's chosen to not take an official to MSU. His recruitment has always been a little odd as most have felt he's long favored Auburn. But he never pulled the trigger and there are some rumblings that he might not have a commitable offer from them yet. Like Dean he's been a hard guy to get a read on.
I'm going to keep my mouth shut for now on Hall. I have my opinions there but we'll see. Don't be surprised if you see a new name pop up for that spot though. And I don't mean we're dropping him.
So where you guys think we end up finishing in rankings? There's 1 team ahead of us (OM) with a lower avg rating per player and 4 teams behind us with a higher avg rating per player (South Carolina, usc, Stanford, and Miami). We're currently at #20. 22nd to 25th?
f
I think between 20 and 25 would be a big win for Moorhead. The recruiting class that comes in the year after you get the job is the hardest to do well in. Those kids have built relationships for a couple years and it's hard to establish a new one, especially if you were on a staff that didn't originally recruit the kid.
A Top 25 ranking with this would be solid. For comparison, we finished 30th with Mullen's first full class.
You've got to look at the bigger picture. If KB chose MSU, then we would be looked at by the media as "the school" that the Clemson qb chose over Auburn. It would be talked about a good bit going into the season and during the first part of the season. No, it's not going to get us big time WR's but it does chip another piece away at the image of MSU being "poor old MSU".
I doubt anybody really talks much about where Bryant lands unless it's AU.
I hope you guys don't find this commmet odd, but Lee Witherspoon looks really good on he hoof. I'm a big believer in that great athletes are "put together" correctly. Look at the 5 star players in the country and notice how their bodies and faces are "put together". I wish I could explain it better than that, but FWIW, in the face and body, Witherspoon looks like a 5 star athlete. I don't know. Gotta feeling with this one. The genetics appear to be right IMO.
