It is. I again keep harping on it, I think it's Starkville. I don't think it's NIL, Lemonis, Parker, Gautreau, etc. They may play a part in it, but players will still go play for bad teams. Hell TCU went 33-21 last year and didn't even make the tournament. But Ft. Worth is lot more desirable than Starkville if the NIL is around the same. I mean just take Ft. Worth for example. If players come on a visit, you have The Stockyards, downtown Ft. Worth, and Dallas 30 minutes away. When they come visit Starkville, they have 3 bars, 9 Mexican restaurants, a dead campus, and Birmingham 2 hours away.
And btw, this is coming from someone who loves Starkville and loves Mississippi St. But we have to change perception. Far too long the perception of Starkville is quiet college town and no one ever tried to deny it. We have to start growing the Cotton District, downtown, attracting businesses, and for the love of God.....START RECRUITING OUT OF STATE STUDENTS.
I think Starkville is the least of those. I think NIL took a hit this year with football taking more (I'm ok with that). I also think Lemonis isn't very good but this was a Parker recruit so I agree, we probably try to stay in the same NIL ballpark as other schools when we need to offer more, but don't have it this time.
Well and unfortunately, I think baseball players are now going to start trying be like football and basketball and ask for exorbitant amounts. See the Moffett kid at LSU for example. A kid like that is worth nowhere near what he is asking. It's going to take a bigger commitment from baseball boosters if they want to stay competitive in NIL. At the end of the day, we just need more money because like you said, our NIL focus this spring/summer was basketball and football(which like you I am ok with).
And there's the answer- Lemonis
We all know he's not a recruiter and sits up on that natty. When kids say they feel like he treats them like they're just lucky to talk him, it's not going to work.
Hopefully he's gone next year. This staff has proven for three years their lazy is relentless.
I know a few who felt that way. One went elsewhere and a couple more are leaning that way. said he acted like a tour guide.
Utah Valley State Daniel Dickinson has entered the Transfer Portal. Dickinson hit .367 with 14 doubles, two triples, 18 homers and 53 RBis this past season (1.131 OPS).
Georgetown Christian Ficca, who hit .344 with 11 homers and 64 RBIs, entered as well.
Florida P Cade Fisher also entered. Fisher had 76 K's in 59.1 innings this past season.
Hire a new HC. But I'm in the Mad Dog Margaritas tonight. My head will hurt tomorrow, but I won't strike out a 1/4 of what Lemonis does.
Think about this:
1st time HC Lebby is killing recruiting at a low end football school
Jans is killing recruiting at a bad basketball school
Lemonis is sucking at a baseball power house
Anyone that doesn't believe he's 75% the problem is lost, blind, and foolish.
It took yall a long time to accept Foxy was a disaster when I was telling yall he was. But it became obvious eventually and this will too
We're not having an issue recruiting high school players. I'm not sure why the portal would be much different.
We haven't had a problem attracting position players this cycle. But we haven't landed a pitcher only guy yet. Which I think is a bit unusual.
At the same time the portal season isn't over for another six weeks or so. It's still way early to panic. We need to get through the draft next and that's an unknown at this point. No one really knows what kind of discussions Lemonis has had with the players and scouts regarding the draft and I am 100% certain he has a much better idea than anyone here has about what is exactly coming back. Like we're all assuming Holcombe is gone. But he is playing summer ball right now which is a little odd for someone that is going pro. At the same time we're all assuming Pico is staying even though he is draft eligible. It sounds like Stone Simmons is coming back. If he is healthy he could start for us or he could close.
Then you have a guy like Brooks Auger. He may not be drafted in the top 10 rounds. Maybe he gets drafted in the 12th round or something and then we offer him NIL and get him back for another year. I don't think anyone would be against that and in that case I would much rather have a guy like Auger over most of the guys in the portal. I don't think he is going to get a massively huge bonus that we couldn't potentially match with NIL.
I'm sure we'll get some guys out of the portal but if our rotation next spring in Simmons, Pico, and Nolan Stevens for example I could live with that on paper.
Oh- and this is coming from a guy that said Foxhall was the main problem since Tulane 2022.
I don't think it's Starkville to be honest with you. Vanderbilt and Tulane are in some pretty awesome places and they're some of the smallest schools in the country. Jackson probably has the most things to do in the state but I bet if you added up the enrollment of Mississippi College, Millsaps, and Belhaven combined it would fall way short of MSU.
I think Parker has to continue to build his reputation. Yeah he did a great job this year with Khal, Loo, Tyler Davis and made Tyson Hardin go from a guy that I didn't think was a SEC player to a guy that was one of our best relievers. He'll get there- but in the case of LaPour Saarloos has a much longer track record at this point.
Todd4 is on a truth burner. very good assessments, sir. obvious facts are simply that.
Our position gets are a very mixed bag this time and we missed on the bigger guys again. HS recruiting hasn't proven to be great because none are here after so many leaving the last few years (bad classes overall). This years HS class is ok but it's not as highly rated as where we've been in the past. Recruiting is an issue. They can build a regional team (who couldn't?), it's building more that's the problem. We've all heard the rumors about recruiting style of Lemonis & we've seen the admission of getting lazy. The problem is, nothing has really changed. We'll sign a couple strong HS guys, one, maybe two portal guys that pan out if we're lucky, and a pitcher that's solid. It still leaves lots of projects and holes. NIL isn't the problem, facilities and support aren't the problems. That leaves the staff as the issue. We've got so much to sell, but it's just not being sold properly.
If what Hadad says is true, Lemonis isn?t taking the pressure of this job very well and doesn?t know how much Lemonis is going to coach. I don?t know if that has anything to do with his recruiting on not. I fully believe if Lemonis was offered the South Carolina job, he would have taken the job. I?m ready to start over and make a hire that will bring juice back to the program.
So many high school recruits are leaving because of the portal culture- not necessarily because they were misevaluated. Which is why we're going to see smaller classes going forward. Because we're adapting to a culture change in baseball doesn't mean we were bad at recruiting. If we were then LSU has been worse considering what they are cutting right now.
In the meantime we have four high school commits that have been rated as top 250 draft prospects to go with the five others on the team currently- Nolan Stevens, Loftin, Highfill, Makhai Grant, and Dylan Cupp. That group doesn't include Luke Dotson, Ryan McPherson, or Henry Allen so no again- our high school recruiting hasn't been a "problem".
If he is that stressed out over it- then why doesn't he just leave? As far as money I suspect we would give him a reasonably nice package if he just decided to "retire". Even if we didn't there are other jobs that he could find that are less stressful. The Citadel was open this year for example. He could do like Paul Manieri and sit out a year and then come back.
But he hasn't done that yet. And I think I know why.
Because it isn't true.
I highly doubt that Lemonis is going to hang out with guys that basically were telling listeners that they weren't going to have much to talk about with baseball earlier in the year and were basically telling listeners that he was going to be fired.
So this is strictly just rumor but what I was told is that Hadad and Faulk have a vendetta against Lemonis because Chris cussed Faulk out to his face and basically told him no one gave a shit about his opinions. Stemmed from them both going after his job last year and into the fall and winter.
And we would have had trouble finding a replacement because coaches aren't going to want to go somewhere that fired their coach two years after their only NC.
Unfortunately we don't have fans that are Ok if the coach that is on the hot seat is able to rebound as Lemonis has.
Ole Miss didn't fire Bianco either for the same reason.
I'm not sure about the lazy stuff so let's just set it aside. If he's not then he's just not very good at what he does.
maybe above mizzou, the sharts and bama? that about right?
Back to the portal, Fisher from Ole Miss is in the portal. .285 with 20 HRs
