If he's a good recruiter and still put in this kind of record, that doesn't say much about his development/gameplanning ability:

Keep in mind that the Sun Belt was much worse back then than it is today, and a good coach should have been able to win consistently in it.
However, he may have learned a lot from Saban and cleared up his deficiencies, since he has been better at Oregon (though with more resources and money than most in the conference have).
Tonight is a prime example of a real coach (Whittingham) vs a recruiter (Cristobal) and it was the same results 3 weeks ago
Oklahoma should go after Whittingham.
