Not surprising at all; they have boosters that loan their wives out to recruits. Bunch of cucks.
Hope they get in a bidding war with lsu over some high end guys. Hope they even win the battles. It'll cost them filling out the roster. The pride of beating lane and lsu over those guys will be their downfall
I'm told LSU has offered Lacy tween 2 and 3 Mil. this won't come close
2 million for a back is lighting money on fire.
They have deep pockets Law Firms, Air Cargo cos, Duck Insurance and Camo gear corporate sponsors cause they are light years ahead of most other schools in fund raising and Marketing. Heck they even got some fiction writer to do commercials for them. They can afford to make Lk raise the Kittie,
This is popular sentiment among some, but they have much more competent leadership than we had at that time. And more importantly a booster class that gets it for them to not loose too much ground. They have a machine in place for a staff to succeed, now it’s up to that staff. I think that many people are about to see how important it is to sing from the same sheet of music.
I would NEVER pay Lacy $2M.
Ever
Get great O linemen instead.
Your last sentence is spot on. I have a family member that's a big ole miss fanboy. We saw him at Christmas and he was right in step with the whole "Golding is responsible for all Lanes success. Lane is not a good person. We're glad he's gone".
State fans suck at this. Ole Miss gets it. They get the message out there to the fans and they preach it like it's the gospel!!!
And LSU has even deeper pockets. It's going to be funny when Kiffin takes whoever he wants from them- but I'll stop laughing when my Caniac combo costs 40 dollars.
They have also had almost everything go right for six years in a row. Once they lose a game or two that they "aren't supposed to" we'll see how in step they are with everything. It's easy to fall in line when you have an elite coach, your rival is down, and you have an easy schedule.
If they're a NFL franchise then they just lost a HOF coach, their entire scouting dept., and now have a more difficult schedule. Now, I don't think they will be as bad as we were under Arnett- if anything at least Golding has hired someone that is off of the Kiffin tree so there won't be as much of an adjustment and you won't have the fan debate/split over it.
But Kiffin was a much bigger piece of the equation than they would like to admit. Specifically identifying talent in the portal. They're going to miss that a lot. You can have money, but you have to know who to target and then be able to attract them. And Kiffin was a household name- Golding is not. The Kiffin brand carried a lot of weight with transfers. Kiffin was also an elite play caller and game planner- how many times did they start a game up 21-0 in the first quarter? It seemed like a weekly occurrence. Even Croom could find a way to win games if you spot him a 21-0 lead. And then with Golding being the head coach that is going to take away some from their defense because he is going to have to adapt to being a head coach.
Do I think they will be a 2-10 team? No. But I do think they will be a 6-8 win team. And now that they have won 10-11 that's probably not going to be good enough. And instability creates weaknesses and allows opportunities for others to win games.
Is this where the Scooby Doo gang pulls the mask off C34 and we find out it was Colonel Reb all along?
OM schedule next year is one of the toughest. Egg Bowl could be two 5-6 teams playing for a bowl berth.
I was told by an OM alum that they lose A LOT on both sides of the ball.
Things could not have fallen better for olemiss when NIL became a thing. They already had an understanding of getting money from boosters to recruits, fans and boosters that are cultish about paying players, a good coach with one of the best offensive minds out there and who understood and embraced the portal, AND a very favorable schedule.
They will continue to get players b/c they embrace paying players and have always been obsessed with appearing to be one of the “big programs”; this will lead them to throwing tons of money at players. Their problem is, I don’t see them get the players that they would have had Kiffin stayed.
Agree. You can't spend your way out of a bad spot alone.
TAMU, Indiana, etc. The list is long on those that spent plenty and got nothing and those that spent a little and got a lot. Nothing has changed. Poor player evals happened before NIL and the whole recruiting rankings deal - see starters in NFL and what teams they play for to see how off talent evals are. Yes as a whole they can hit but the one off misses are way many.
College football sucks, not sure I will ever enjoy it, don't like anything about paying players (even high school kids get paid now) and the transfer/portal is terrible!
As far as Ole Dixie, we shall see but they do have way more tradition than us, they have been to 11 sugar bowls! I don't know where college football is headed for the coming years.
No problem with paying players. Big problem with free agency every offseason. Players have all the leverage.
