Black Friday Can Be Lebby's 09 Egg Bowl Moment

Lebby has a chance to right every wrong in some folks eyes 11 days from now. Go back to November 28, 2009 (also Black Friday btw). We were 4-7 and were going nowhere and OM was 8-3 and headed to their 2nd straight Cotton Bowl. Mullen saw the offense needed a spark and inserted Chris Relf. The rest is history.

Jeff Lebby has the chance to do the same thing. Start Kamario Taylor, who has been mostly hidden, and take the reigns off. If it works, he goes 6-6 and goes to a bowl. He would force OM AT A MINIMUM on the road for a playoff game. And he could give Lane Kiffin an L heading out the door.

At a certain point you have to start thinking about the future. Dan Mullen realized that on Black Friday at halftime in that locker room. Jeff Lebby needs to realize before that. This is not a knock on Blake Shapen. I think Blake Shapen gave us everything he could. And he gave us some good moments. He gave us some bad ones too. He just cannot hold up behind that line and be successful. It's time to make switch for no other reason than we need to know what we have. Because if Kamario balls out, then we're looking for a high level backup out of the portal and can spend money at other positions. If he bombs, you have to go get a P4 starter caliber QB and that will cost you 1.5 MINIMUM.

Now the 4 million dollar question, do I actually think he will go with Kamario Taylor? I do. I think if we didn't have a bye right now I'd say differently, but the bye gives us the opportunity to formulate a gameplan around Kamario.

Not necessarily a likelihood, but there's a real chance Lebby could be coaching against an interim at OM in that game.

In that case...it's an absolute must win game.

I've talked to enough people yesterday and today to believe it would have to REALLY sideways over the next 10 days for Lane to not coach the Egg Bowl. Like it would have to get really toxic. I don't see that happening.

I hope he gets it done, but it's more likely to be his 2008 Egg Bowl moment.

This is what I expect.

Lebby is much closer to Croom IQ so my money is on 2008 Egg Bowl performance.

It is crazy to think that Shapen has thrown more pick 6s than any QB in MSU history and hasn't even played an entire season. That doesn't even include the scoop and score that broke our backs against ASU last year. Say whatever you want, Shapen might be tough as hell but he has kept us out of as many games as in them. Our defense being as bad as it is can't afford for the QB to consistently 17em.

I think Shapen is done and I don't mean he has given up. I think mentally he is cooked. The kid has taken a beaten on and off the field and that has to cook your confidence. I appreciate everything he has done. The dude is a competitor and gives it his all on the field but it's time to pass the torch. KT gives us the best chance to win imo. Mainly due to our putrid O Line. I do not think Lebby will start KT tho. Inwould be shocked if he does. I think the guy is hell bent on proving he can win with Shapen. With that being said.. I don't think we will get it done but dang I sure hope so. Here's to hoping Lebby comes up with a great gameplay and makes the right in game decisions.

Om has no leverage. Lane can just say he's going to wait until after the season for a decision. What is OM going to do? Fire him and pay a 50 million buyout? Lane has all the leverage.

I mean they could tell him he either signs the extension or he can resign. If he's suspended without pay then he can't sign an agreement with Florida or LSU. He HAS to resign from Ole Miss to sign the contract with Florida or LSU. There are laws that prevent him from signing anything with Florida or LSU while he is employed at Ole Miss. You cannot sign an agreement with one state school and be employed by another state school.

So Lane has leverage to an extent, but it's not as much as some perceive him to have.

He has but he also can't be completely absolved of blame. He gets HR happy back there when he actually has time and by the time he realizes the HR isn't there he tries to force something.

I saw at least twice Saturday night where Shapen could have hit Traore in the flat for a 7 to 10 yard gain but held it too long looking for Evans or Thompson to get open.

And that's a definite issue. Because when he has time he tends to look for that HR. And sometimes he hit, but sometimes you have to be Checkdown Charlie and get the 7 yds to stay in front of the chains. I think he does that ok when he's pressured, but oddly enough struggles with it when he has time.

Lames decision should be known in a week from today. Getting serious on the plantation with them touring high schools in florida and baton rouge

I would say it's known by the weekend. If they get into game prep, which will probably start Friday, and something isn't signed by that point. There will be A TON of worry in Oxford.

He has. No doubt at all. I'm not saying one way or the other. Blake has done some good things for us and he's done some bad things for us. I just think at this point, we need to see what we have in Taylor. Because the offseason, win or not, starts November 28th at about 3 PM. We have to see what we have and look, OM has had trouble with mobile QBs this year. Kamario is that.

And I really want to see how far Kamario matures from now until next season. Seeing how he has grown and matured in just three months makes me wonder how good he will be with a spring practice, summer workouts and a fall camp.

It says something that Kevin Fant played for 4 years but Shapen has the record. No one is worse than Richard Burch at LT. Dude got the DE from Auburn drafted on one game. I think he had 4 or 5 sacks.

Well I want to see what he's going to do when he's given the reigns. Because if he struggles then we need to seriously consider looking at a transfer QB. We're going to need one regardless because Kromenhoek will out of all likelihood transfer. So we need to know whether we need a high level backup or we need a bonafide P4 starter.

And btw, I am not talking misses a couple of passes as struggles. I am talking like he consistently makes the wrong reads, with layering the ball, etc. Problems that cannot be worked out overnight or with more practice.

I think the reason he struggles when he does have time is due to how bad the O Line is. He has been hit all year. So he probably never expects time and when it's there its just added pressure on Shapen because he knows a hit is coming. I don't know if that makes sense how I worded it but that's how I would feel if I'm in Shapens shoes.

You're saying he's seeing ghosts and feeling pressure when it's not there. That makes complete sense and I think that is definitely part of the issue.

Yes sir.. thank you for putting it into a better perspective. 100% agree with you on why KT should play. I'm sure the price difference between a sure enough starter and strong backup is pretty significant. But might be closer than I think.

A really good backup could be gotten for 600-700K. OM got Chambliss on a bit of a discount because he was FCS.

A P4 starter is probably going to start at 1.5 this year. You could get two HIGH LEVEL OLs for that price so we really need Kamario to be the real deal.

Kentucky got Calzada for 1.5 and benched him. Of course I would not have gone after Calzada in the first place.

That's the sh!tty thing about NIL right now. 1.5 mill to get benched and then he flexed his money on social media with videos. I don't know the fine print of it all but hopefully they can come up with a solution for players like this. And I wanna add that if it's just a bad eval then that should just eat the loss. But if it's a discipline issue or a player just says screw it, the university should be able to get that money back. I'm assuming Calzada got benched due to poor playing but it aggravates me that he basically doesn't care and did all that on social media.

I'm not trying to start anything but I would not be least bit shocked if he was brought in. Personally I think he's going to UNT. I think Mestemaker ends up at Texas Tech and Arnold takes over for him there. I mean it's 7 miles Denton-Guyer to DATCU Stadium.

It's hard to imagine LSU or Florida would allow him that long to decide.
