When is the last time the disparity has been this big?

The disparity ( despair-ity) between us and OM right now is pretty drastic.

Football:
Them: 10-3, 1st round QB
Us: 2-10, 0-8 SEC, nobody drafted at all.

Basketball;
Them: Sweet 16 and almost elite 8
Us: first round losers again, haven?t one a single game since 2008

Baseball:
Them: playing in sec final as we speak
Us: firing coach mid season and barely squeezing out a regional appearance after getting blown out in the first round of the tournament.

I don?t know what the answer is but it?s sickening how they have widened the gap on us in recent years and it doesn?t look like that?s changing anytime soon. I know we can beat them regular season in atleast basketball and baseball but that?s not worth much of anything in the grand scheme of things.

Baseball I?m marginal on, and frankly could care less about either way.

It ebbs and flows.

In 2018-19, we punked them in football 35-3 with a first year coach and made sure they weren't bowl eligible. Had 3 first round draft picks (yea the Raiders taking Abram was dumb just like the Giants taking Dart is dumb.) We were a 5 seed in men's basketball with a coach who had final fours on his resume while they were sitting at home. And we went to Omaha with a first year coach while Bianco floundered again in the Supers.

Either Lebby will turn it around this year or we'll get another coach in here who will. Our baseball team can win with any coach and folks might be surprised at the run we make this postseason. And basketball we just have gotten horrendous bracket draws. OM was gifted a wounded 3 seed and an 11 seed that didn't deserve to be in the tournament. If we had their draw, we're at minimum in the sweet 16 and probably in the Elite 8. We'll be better than them again next year in regular season and just need to not play a former championship winning coach first round.


The only gap is football and that's because our Coach died while we were searching for an AD and just had no plan. Leach was going to retire here. It hurts because Robertson really looks like he's about to be a 1st round QB next year. We were primed to be a perennial 8/9 win team and get a playoff berth every other year with him at minimum.

Before NIL, they were also much better cheaters than State and it was encouraged. I don't condone cheating, but we had and have an admin that wouldn't even color outside the lines a little bit.

Believe you me. There is no more an entitled bunch then the money men and women at Ole Miss. They spend more for their access. But if you think Joe Littleman is boosting their finances for athletics, you have been misinformed. They have more big donors to athletics then State does and by a lot! One of our biggest donors donated 100% of their large gift to academics. Because getting their name on a building is more important than winning football, baseball or basketball games. It's not that way at Ole Miss. for every 1 rebel academics donor, there are 10 athletics donors. They also have a lot of sidewalk fans with money who never attended. I know because I grew up around them!

Truthfully it?s all Missippy there is not as much difference in the people, they are just able to be on the same page when we 17 each other over to get what we want. Hopefully we are going to get our collective shat together, we are showing signs of this. But I have seen it ebb and flow for us, we just picked a bad, bad time to 17 it up.

Apparently, Vandy doesn't need NIL funds like everybody else does for Baseball! Corbin is legit and there has never been a doubt!

They embraced NIL and the transfer portal from start while we did essentially nothing. There's the difference.

They also aren't afraid to hire coaches with baggage while our president and boosters would never go for that. They want to win at all costs. We like to win, but it's not our #1 priority.

Bottom line: the message for the administrative folks is 'fix it'. And 'fix it' pretty 17ing quickly or clear the lot of them and find folks who can.

I stand on the fact they are absolutely a better basketball program than us right now.

People can say they had a easy draw yeah okay lol maybe we woulda had a better draw if we didn?t have a bum coach who falls apart after January so I?m not giving into that one bit. Beard is a objectively better coach and I don?t seem him getting rug pulled and flipped on by 3 star dudes to go to schools like SMU. They are a significantly better basketball program than us at the moment, and a couple of regular season wins doesn?t change that for me or anyone who watches on the national stage.

Add to the fact that we have historically been the basketball school in the state, to have some people see it as ?marginal? should tell you something.

They still got ways to go to catch us in basketball - men or women. Yes end of last year they had better but got to look deeper than that.

Football - yeah recently they got us but we won 9 games and beat them in Oxfart in 22. 10 years prior to that we had a better run. This current gap will not stay this way. We'll close the gap starting this fall.

Baseball - again look at the long haul. 16-21 was as dominant a baseball run as ever - 5 straight supers, 3 straight to Omaha. No one in NCAA history has ever done that - let that sink in a minute. OM been to Omaha what twice in school history? No, they still behind us.

yep they accomplished nothing but spent pitching. Crash and burn next weekend.

I know for a fact that the fake plantation owners cheated back in the day way better than us. While we were buying recruits/players momma’s a whole new furniture set they were buying recruits/players momma’s houses and getting family members jobs. It was just that much difference back then between us and them. And we were both very inferior to other teams in our conference.

So yes they have a very big lead of a network of donors willing to give big bucks to purchase players. So when NIL came they were basically up and running buying players. “Us” we were so deadgum caught up being altar boys and not even really trying to play the game of buying players under the table back in the day. Imo that is why they are way ahead of us.

Do you think we would have thought to go after bad players like Kelly in football, Marshall Henderson in basketball etc. etc. Sure we got a d lineman that was caught on video beating up a female. But that was the exception rather than the norm.

Exactly. And I think football drives perception of the whole athletic department as a whole fair or not. Probably like that at most schools so it's not like that is just a MSU thing.

Leach actually had us ahead of Ole Miss and Kiffin when he passed away and he had more of a rebuild IMO. Had he survived we would be talking about how Sawyer Robertson might be getting ready to make a Heisman run.

More than anything we need a decent football season.

Basketball I feel like we are relatively even. I think Hubbard is a special player similar to Timmy Bowers and it feels like we have a chance to put something together there.

Baseball has underachieved and Ole Miss's NC hangover was actually worse than ours. Yes, we fired our coach but the team isn't a dumpster fire like what Cohen took over in 2008. We're at least a regional team and we'll see how the hire goes but if we make the right one we could be 2016-2021 elite again very quickly. With a better head coach we could and should have had a season like Ole Miss has had this year.

So it's more that we're rebuilding and on the upswing and in the meantime they have had a lot more stability.

It hasn't been this big in my lifetime. It's not just the money that is different but Lane effect has really changed things over there. Their brand. Their will to win things.. The media loves talking about them.

Meanwhile, the media who used to talk us down don't even mention us now. Our brand been so diminished with no visible light at the end of the tunnel at the moment. We are going to have to make it from sweat equity and hard edge determination. All the success Mullen had has been essentially erased.

To make matters worse most of our NFL guys are nearing retirement with no one coming up behind them.
