We really are trying to become a Top 5 program moving forward with forward thinking. More of a pro mentality. Pro set up.
With NIL/Portal- go ahead and take the pro approach.

Spill the beans lol. You are giving us a teaser right now
boosters cutting Huuge checks
I'm assuming this is in reference to football?
This! We are who we are in football! There is NO worries from anyone in the SEC that Mississippi State has the backers to play football at a championship level! Find a way to average 6 wins a year with an occasional 8 win season. Spend as needed to maintain. Charge the Storm for Basketball Baseball, 2 sports we can and have been near or at the Top!
Adkerson bringing out the check book from what I understand.
If O'Conner tells us no, he'll be turning down not only a shit ton of money, but a locked and loaded network set up for him.
We are bringing pros in not just college guys
Forward thinking is only as good as its execution.
Lemonis actually tried to have a pro mentality with our program- he just thought that meant being hands off. And it blew up in his face.
I'm fine being "pro style". My personal style of offense is a style with power and speed with aggressiveness in the form of hit and runs, squeeze plays, and etc. Similar to LaRussa. Pitching and defense play up in baseball no matter the level.
But we need to still integrate tough, hard nosed Tanner Allen/Jake Mangum style baseball with the "pro" stuff.
That's going to be a tough sell to their fans. Some of the bigger Big 10 schools like Michigan, Ohio State, USC, and etc. are going to have the same problem that Georgia and Florida have in the SEC and for the same reasons.
If you're in LA right now and you want to watch a baseball game- do you want to watch USC or do you want to watch the Dodger or Angels? That's a no brainer.
What, exactly, is pro style?
Wouldn?t the new coach determine which style or philosophy?
We have untapped resources that due to whatever reasons have never been used. These resources are a wealth of talent and experience at our disposal that if properly motivated can change the program to better handle todays collegiate landscape and change the program to compete for the long term.
That is a good reason to hang onto Lebby as long as possible and make him feel appreciated if he can get us to averaging close to 7 wins a year.
The only thing that gives me small hope about football is that Ole Miss is competing. They clearly have a great coach which we will need. Whether or not that?s Lebby or not is TBD, but is there any reason we couldn?t do the same thing if we got a coach on Kiffin level. I mean I don?t know if Kiffin can get them to the playoff or not if he couldn?t last year but if we get a coach his level we should still be able to win 8 or 9 games most years. Their NIL is better right now but I think ours would still pick up if we started having some 6 or 7 win seasons instead of 2
I agree but lets shoot for the 6 or 7 wins first. Lebby is an excellent football mind and just needs a team full of players and good depth.
I believe we'll 100% hire a sitting HC at a P4 program. Kendall seems to think with the settlement stuff shaking out coaches will be on the move. One rumor would make folks run naked down Montgomery with joy but I've got my doubts about that one.
The sad thing is that we should've had this structure put in place from the moment the plane from Omaha touched down in 2021. We had the damn former baseball coach as the AD. He should've already had a GM in place and be ready to roll. Should've been working the portal while we were still in Omaha. Instead he and his crony Lee Van Horn were going to start peddling signed baseballs and each player would get a WHOLE $400!!!!!
Oh man this totally doesn't feel like 2018.
Question here, not a statement. Am I thinking about this correctly?
Was this not the appeal of Bill Belichick to NC. It's not that he can or even will be coaching for a while, it's the structural aspect of how the program is ran. The transfer portal and NIL is not what a HC needs to be great at, he needs to be a coach and have input on talent but the hours it takes to make the portal and NIL work takes away from coaching. You need your coach being a coach while the workings of acquiring talent is not his main focus. That is up to a group solely dedicated to doing that.
We have always and so has every other college football program always had an eye on is he a great recruiter or great coach or some combination of both. Pros... only think how good a coach he can be but with a say on the talent that is acquired.
I am not informed, but is this the line of thinking of the Structured like Pro teams.
and I do not think so... it's still freezing temps during baseball season up there. You ever felt the winds coming off those great lakes in March and April? Baseball is a summer sport, in college, it's played in the spring so teams from the south and out west will always have an advantage. The teams out west? They got Pro sports and less care about college. Even the mighty USC struggles at times with Football attendance and such.
Now, they can dominate Football and basketball if they chose.
Whether this rumor is true or not remains to be seen but it feels like a little momentum may be brewing. Rumors like this swirling up to an appropriate hire could mean a huge portal/recruiting jump for the 25-26 season. Just have to keep it all moving that direction.
