Top dog forever. One of my first heroes. May he rest in peace.
Sorry to hear this. He was one of my favorite players ever. Praying for his family!
He needed a heart transplant. Just couldn't get one. He was really a good friend i will miss him greatly.
definitely very sad news and tonight we have lost one of our all time greats.
RIP, 99! You will be missed! One the greatest of all time! Seems like just yesterday I was listening to Jack on the radio saying, ?He cannot GO! Just a mass of humanity down there John with big 99 in the middle of it!? Time goes too quick! RIP!
Praying for his family and loved ones!
One of my all-time favorite Bulldogs. Never forget his quote on the 10-0 bowl win over Kansas in Birmingham, "We shut them down." Prayers to the Cooks family.
One of the best to ever wear maroon. We lost a good un today
RIP Johnie. Hell of a great bulldog. He and Glen Collins were named All-American in 1981 but it was Cooks that was our first consensus All-American being honored by the AP & UPI, which were the selection standard of the era.
One of my favorite MSU players of all time. Dude was an absolute beast.
Ring of Honor Legend, RIP
Really good person and absolutely a man among boys on the field. RIP Johnie! And prayers for his family!
He was larger than life - physically and his personality. the cooks family were great friends to my family when we lived in Starkville. I've coached middle school kids with him, hung out with him, and even spent 2 months in a hospital room 2 doors down from his last year. He was such a fighter. He and his wife, Maggie, have meant so much to my family. Their encouragement and inspiration during my heart transplant and recovery will never be forgotten. They'll never know what they mean to me and my family. Thank you Johnnie and Maggie.
Really sad to hear this news. Great player...always seemed like a really good guy too.
Hope you got to touch the hand of God Johnnie
I still would like to know what he whispered in the Miami long snapper’s ear, the BEST I ever saw.
Best player I ever saw at MSU.
The triple option didn't work very well when he was on the field.
You could see JC's head bobbing talking to him. Snapper almost snapped it through the goalposts.
Prayers for family. Hate to hear it. One of best ever LB to play SEC ball.
