I am building a sawmill shed out of rough sawn #1 grade pine. These are all "true" dimensions...
Posts to be set ~12' oc
Beams 3.5x10x~12
Rafters (~12' span) 2x8x12 48" oc
Purlins (laid flat) 2x6x12 36" oc
Metal panels on top w/ 10#Dead/20#Live Loads
I'm most concerned on the sizing/centers on the rafters... that seems like a smallish rafter for such a big spacing.... Should I go to a 3x6, 4x6x12? Maybe reduce to 36" oc?
I can't find a span table online and don't have the ENG skilz to figure loads...
ETA - I'd rather use fewer, bigger timbers than more, smaller timbers....

Tusk, 48" spacing is too wide for the 2x8's at that span. 36" would be marginal. If you want to keep that spacing and you have access to 4x6's those would work for Grade 1 SYP.
The spacing on the rafters and the purlins look to be incorrect.
The rafters should be on 24" centers and the purlins should be set at the span capacity of the metal roof panels which would completely depend on the the roof panel. If it were just corrogated metal, I would place those at 24" max as well.
Now, this is all rule of thumb information, I did not run calculations.

If we got any snow at all, I would suggest 18". 24" should suffice perfectly fine.
Hey TUSK if you can. get the ICC Code book and it will have your span tables in the Framing section.
Guys, I phrased my question poorly... I'm well versed in "conventional" framing span table with "standard", planed, dimensional #2 lumber. I've built several structures including the house I live in, now. (No, it's not a trailerhouse, nor a van down by the river:rolleyes:)...
This new project is to be a timber framed "equipment shed"... It'll be an open sided gable type, with no walls, insulation, roof decking, etc. Since I'm cutting my own material, I can mill the lumber as large as I like and I would prefer both the aesthetics (and the fewer pieces) of a "timber" frame type building.

Known Variables:
Beams will be 3.5 x 10 spanning 12' over 6x6 posts.
Purlins will be 2x6x12 & 3' oc lying flat.
Metal panels will be screwed to the purlins.
I'd prefer my Rafters to be 48" oc. (36" at the closest).
I found an old table that gives some data, but I don't know how to decipher it.

If I am reading this correctly, a 3x6 rafter will span 10'... But the table says it's for 60#psf live load....and I only need to hold up about 10/20# live/dead.
In summary, the rafter needs to span ~12' and be 36-48" oc. It can be 3x6, 4x6, 3x8, 4x8 whatever....

also, the sawmill is a Chinese knock off of a Woodland Mills... Called a "Wood Esse" or "Rima"....
