For the IJ Ready haters....

Here's just a few stats that may change the way you look at Ready:

-The veteran IJ Ready has logged the most minutes on the team with 451 minutes, yet he only has the 7th most shots per minute on the team behind Q, Lamar, Kegler, Holman, Carter and Stapleton. For the only senior on the team, that's a very unselfish team first approach.

-IJ has the second best FT% on the team at 84%.

-IJ has 76 assists and 29 turnovers for a 2.62 assist to turnover ratio.

-Speaking of assists, IJ's 76 assists equates to 5.1 assists per game, which is second best in the SEC behind Kentucky's De'Aaron Fox.

- IJ has 29 steals, which is good for 5th in the SEC and a 1-to-1 steal to turnover ratio.

The little dude is vital to our team's success this year, and I can guarantee you that we would not be 11-4 without him.

He also is playing a vital mentor ship role to Peters.

If he would just play better defense. Watch set piece scoring plays against us when he is on the floor. In some games 50% of them start with him losing his man. His man may not be the one that scores, but it starts with his.

If we're talking bad defense it has to begin with Q. His effort on defense is horrible. We all love Q but his defense has to improve.

Yep, what a luxury it is to have a back up senior PG that is top 5 in the SEC in steals and assists.

I love how we can start with two bigs in Herard and Holman, then 5 minutes into the game go small with two point guards in Ready and Peters. It creates match up problems and causes the opposing coach to adjust who he has on the court depending on who we go with, not who he wants on the court.

I like seeing Ready and Peters on the court together because it is teaching Peters how to play with another PG on the court, because next year we will see a lot of that with little Spoon and Peters. We are gonna have the ability to throw so many different combinations of 5 on the court next year, which will keep everybody fresh and keep the opposing D guessing. I'm starting to get excited.

100% agree, not to mention Q's 28 assists to 30 turnover ratio. While IJ's size is a liability on D, his 29 steals have created many fast break points and momentum swings.

if Q is so terrible why does Ben put Him on the other teams best shooter?

We would be a worse team without Ready. We will also be better next year because of IJ because he is allowing Howland to bring Peters along slowly. If Peters had more responsibility this year I think it would be extremely tough on him because he is a very emotional player. Ready helps steady Lamar in my opinion.

It is not fake that IJ cannot play defense. he gets shot over and beat off the dribble every game. I love the fact that He can make Free throws. His assist are up because we have players that can shoot.

Who else are you gonna put on their best shooter? 5'10" IJ? no. 6'0" Lamar Peters? no. Bean Pole Carter? no. Kegler is too slow. Eli Wright is too inexperienced and not confident enough. Q is the only guy on our team right now with the combination of length and athleticism to cover the opposing teams best shooter. However, as Stapleton gets more and more healthy, and adds minutes, I think you may see him guarding the other teams best when he is on the court.

Who's his other option? Ready & Lamar are smaller. Tyson weighs 165 & Eli minutes are sporadic. Q isn't a good defender I'm sure he would tell you his defense needs to improve.

Not trying to hijack your post but thought I would add something that irritated me the other night. First off, I love Kegler and think he will be a very good player so this is not said to put Kegler down. I love the toughness he brings to the team. This could apply to anyone but I saw Kegler do both of these the other night so I'm using him as an example. Towards the end of the Arkansas game Kegler receives the inbounds pass, Arkansas is looking to foul, He holds the ball til they foul him so he can shoot free throws with IJ calling for the ball wide open 10 feet away. IJ is an 84% free throw shooter, Kegler is 62%. Don't be that guy, pass it to the better shooter.
There were also a couple of 3's he put up late in the game that didn't end up hurting us but do we really want him shooting 3's in that situation. He was probably the 4th best 3 shooter in the game at that time. Again, not trying to bash Kegler but these little things could come back to hurt us in close games. I do think his desire to shoot 3's rather than play down low is probably going to be an issue at some point. Hope I'm wrong though. Anyway, off my soapbox, just trying to point out a few small things that separate good teams from average or bad teams.
