If he is an option... He is gonna have to be paid.. as a LB coach at Auburn last year he made between 450-500k, I'm sure he got a nice bump with the title of Associate Head Coach for Defense at South Carolina recently. I would think an offer would need to be in the 600-750k range.
We need to pay $750-$1mil either way.
And we won't. We will pay a retread or an "up and comer". I've got no confidence right now in what we are gong to do. Got big openings and our off season is gonna go by what we do in the next few days. Doubt anything happens until convention. In a day or so everyone will be melting bc nothing is announced...kind of like signing day being a month away and the freak out over recruiting.
Has he been a DC anywhere? I know nothing about him except that he is an exceptional recruiter.
Looks like he'd help with Derrick Brown http://247sports.com/Coach/Lance-Thompson-307
What was the rift between Saban's daughter and him. I remember she called him out on Twitter . I'm hearing he had fall outs with Saban one year and Smart another year. Just something for someone to look into
If we can get Thompson for $600k-$750k, the ink should already be dry.
This seems to solve all our ( fans ) issues. Pay him.
Think we could get Thompson and hopson as co-DC's? I know many here don't like hopson, but I'd love to have him as our in-state guy and Thompson as our out-of-state guy in recruiting
Then make Hopson safety coach. And pay him for his resume.
There's absolutely no reason for State not to offer 750k or more for the right guy. Want to see a DC stay with us more than one year? Pay a comparable SEC salary!
If we want to be a big time program we should be paying our DC very near 1 mil per year. I mean its ridiculous not to if we can pay our HC over 4 mil. Given Mullen is the guru of everything we do offensively, our DC is without question the 2nd most important coach on the staff. Maybe it wouldn't matter and maybe it really isn't a money issue but it seems like for Strick to save a few hundred K in the budget the consequence is having total instability on the leader of our defense. Meanwhile, Bucky is sitting with the same DC he came in with. Stricklin preaches that keeping our coaches will never be a money issue but our actions relative to our assistants don't back that up.
I think Mullen should take a pay cut and use that to offset the assistants pay raises. Give him an incentive based pay raise.
Yes I'm kidding but only a little bit.
