I've got a million people I could call but I'm going to be in town for a bit soon and wanted to do something special. I've done Arnoud's and really enjoyed it. Thinking about Antoine's too. Any other must hit spots for dinner? Thinking close to the quarter and walking distance from canal.

Anywhere really I would definitely recommend eating at jacques imos one night and then staying around uptown for the night.
Cochon (so) is real good. They grow their own ingredients, including the animals. They also supply meat to local restaurants. Not real close to the quarter though.Quote:

Luke at the bottom of the St Charles Hilton is stupid good. The have some New Orleans stuff and German stuff. I recommend the bone-in pork shank with sauerkraut and brats. Someone told me the roasted duck is good.
Deanie's in the Quarter is good. It is traditional New Orleans fare. Not cheap. Not expensive.
Mr Bs is good. All the brennas are. Bourbon house is the same.
I dont care for deannies or mothers. I ate at peche a few days ago and it was good.
Dont eat at dragos unless it is for oysters.
mothers is ok. just over talked which leaves it wanting IMO.
I'll look up Cochon's and Mr. B's. maybe do one each night.
Jacques Imoes is great, I eat there often and was there Friday night. It's not walking distance from the quarter but worth the cab ride. You can also take the street car there.
Mother's is not very good... We went back in October and everyone I talked to told me to eat lunch at Mother's... The old lady and I got a couple of cold roast beef sandwiches and paid like $30. I would have rather eaten at Subway.
If you want to stay within walking distance, jacquimos is out. NOLA is I think an emeril restaurant and it's good. Any Besh restaurant is good. August is basically a block off canal. Domenica's is in the Roosevelt. August will be $100 per head if you do any drinks or appetizers, Domenica you can do for signficantly cheaper if you want. I've heard people rave about Bayona's (a susan spicer restaurant) but haven't eaten there. Stella and Stanley's are also options although Stanley is more of a brunch place.Quote:

I agree with Ennis - only go to Dragos for oysters. Their broiled oysters are the best on the planet. The rest of their food is below average.
awesome guys. thanks. Jacque Imos keeps coming up. May have to make the trip to uptown for it. I've got a couple of days and I'm going on a foodie tour.
Jacques-imos is awesome- relatively cheap, you get tons of food, all your NOLA staples + unique stuff like rabbit, alligator, etc., and the atmosphere is laid-back. Only thing is you have to get there EARLY, or be prepared to wait at least an hour. There are a couple of bars on Oak Street and Carrollton to hold you over though. Check this link out: nomenu.com. You can sort lists of restaurants by neighborhood, couisine, etc. and it gives a review on most of them and tells you what to get, etc...
Clancy's is another good one Uptown. Its more white table cloth and fancier than Jacques-Imos, though. Its over by Audubon Park.
Two Sisters is better known as "The Court of Two Sisters" ... courtyard ambiance and fine food , I prefer them for a brunch or lunch ..... Herbsaint for dinner (and order the peppercorn seared tuna )
I say the opposite. Plan on eating late. Get there around 6:30, put your name on the list, and go next door to the Mapleleaf. It will probably be an hour or more depending on what night you go. Periodically check back to get an estimate on what time you'll be seated and stay put when you get to the 15 to 20 minute mark. It will take up basically your whole night, but it's a pretty good night and should be what your looking for if you're doing a foodie tour.Quote:

The brunch at two sisters is unreal. The patio is amazing and the buffet has everything from salad to shrimp to egg and grits to pecan pie to jambalaya. It's greatness.
I had chioppino at Irene's and it's the best I've ever had. Really cool place and a good atmosphere. They'll also serve you in their piano bar while you wait, but I'd still recommend getting reservations. it was packed on a Monday night.
I ate at Luke Sunday afternoon before Wrestlemania. It was top shelf, and is super convenient to Harrah's.
