Just asking the question, Chone is hitting .394. Milewski is hitting .200. Chone has shown a good arm and athleticism. Yes, he struggled blocking balls and had 5 PBs. But Milewski has 4. Is it time to give him another look at C?
Can Chone be excused from all of his classes to get a two-week immersion program in how to play catcher?
His bat is definitely good enough to be in the lineup, and he has the swagger too.
He is not a very good catcher at all but he does have a good bat. He does not need to catch but he will play 3rd or 2nd next year for us. He is the 3rd catcher for a reason
Got swept at home by A&M worse than this in 2016 and wound up winning the SEC title after finishing 16-2 (13-2 in conference play) after the sweep.
We'll find out quick if this team can get on a run like that one did. Plenty of ball left, plenty of talent too. Just need to get our shit together.
Milewski has been fine most of the time. This weekend was really the only time it was an issue.
Got to get the offense in gear. Yea, pitching and defense let us down on Thursday night, but on Friday and Saturday we held the best slugging offense in the country to 3 and 5 runs respectively and lost both games. That should not have happened. Georgia's pitching is their weakness and we made it look like it was their strength. Pretty sure we had less offense against them in the final 2 series games than in any other SEC series they've played. And I know SEC umpiring is bad but, unless they are just all biased against us, last I checked we are all playing with the same umps calling the games.
Yep the O in my concern. This has been brewing for weeks. Struck out 13 times in last game at OM and a bunch overall. I said that Grambling game was terrible timing. Pitching was so bad it made us worse at the plate. UGA confirmed we have hitting issues now.
Pitching been good, D better than O, O got to get fixed.
All I'm going to say about the umpires is college baseball needs ABS badly. And I'm speaking in general here across the board. The fact of the matter is umpires are too much of a factor in game play when that was never supposed to be their role. The game now moves too fast for them. It moves too fast for MLB umpires too so that's not a criticism.
Regardless I want the outcomes of the game decided by the players on the field as much as possible. Our series is just one small example. Georgia's catcher is moving his mitt about 6 inches on balls in the dirt and he yanks it up and they called it a strike every time. Kudos to him. But that's not right. And as far as hitting that thing absolutely 100% affects your approach as a hitter. It changes the count if nothing else. But even worse to me is bad strike zones make you more likely to chase as a hitter because if they're going to call a pitch out of the strike zone a strike you have swing at pitches that aren't strikes. And fans can say "well the hitters have to adjust" but without knowing it they're basically saying that the players have to hit pitches that aren't strikes. Even MLB players can't do that.
Now I'm not saying that the umpire was the whole problem but it definitely contributed.
This was a bad weekend but not embarrassing
Just need to adjust a few things. Who the coaches think is good needs to be fixed. With man on 1st and a 204 hitter at the plate, you bunt or get a Pinch Hitter. Especially in the 9th inning and a masher team as the opponent. Then with the dude on 2nd and a 204 hitter at the plate... you bunt.
Ace's stats in 2025 are skewed by the Mizzou series. He had two weekends that made his stats gaudy, the rest was just ok. This year, without Troy and Lipscomb, he is a 269 overall hitter. He is not 1989 Raffo, 2017 Rooker, or 2021 TA. This is more like 2022 Luke Hancock. He's good but he's only an All American versus 0-30 Mizzou. I hope his NIL did not cost MSU Henry Ford and an elite catcher.
Then you have the cleanup spot, damn. Then you have James, Bevis, and Wyers watching Dudes getting put away with scripted pitches that opponents know they can't hit.
Careful now, any scrutiny of Reese will get you blacklisted around here. With that said, you're absolutely right. He feasts on bad pitching. He sucks on good pitching. He's hitting .205 in league play. Not only is he not an All American at this point, he's not even All SEC. He's gonna have to hit .400 the remainder of league play to get to .300.
Good post and I agree. The inconsistency on balls and strikes must get fixed and if absolutely affects the game, the batter approach, etc.
Why I said too the horrible pitching vs Grambling trained our hitters to try and swing at junk too. No one thinks about the impact of playing some of these bad mid week games in that perspective.
Losing close games was not embarrassing and losing to a top 4 team close ain't bad. We still don't have any bad losses but our good wins aren't many either. We got to start winning some of these.
Going 0-3 at home at the Dude is a embarrassing to me. Going 1-2 while I don't like it I can accept but 0-3 just too much.
Gotta agree. UGA's RPI a week ago was 40 and ours was 5. Not that it means much at this juncture but getting swept at home considering the point the program is supposedly at is not a good look. As you said just losing a series at home is fairly easily navigated. But this....... nah. No bueno.
Playing Grambling didnt do shit to our hitters. We struck out too much vs Mississippi also. Shit- Gram had a couple guys throwing 90 with a good CB. They werent throwing guys thumping it up there at 77 on the FB.
We struck out 33 times vs Mississippi in 3 games
We struck out 11 times vs Gram
We struck out 29 times vs Georgia
We simply strike out too damn much. Our hitting coach needs to do a better job huh? We always blamed GoTro for our hitting under Lemon- wellllll its time to blame this staff for our striking out too much.
Georgia threw so many curveballs and 3rd option pitches this weekend. The team may need a troll doll and some liquor, and KFC bucket of chicken to sacrifice.
