At least we?re within 20.
Halftime
Miss. State 22
South Carolina 38
Overall the other teams that needed to help us pulled through tonight. Tennessee beat Georgia and Missouri beat Arkansas. We need to be pulling for Missouri to win to pull up their NET.
The Georgia game this coming Thursday is huge. Georgia is playing well and has beaten or at least taken some very good teams to the wire. Their NET is 35.
I've been saying time and time again that Miss. State can't afford to allow these SEC teams to get comfortable on offense. Also, agree with what Carolyn Peck said about Miss. State having waited to long to press South Carolina (also note...Peck is a good former coach and current analyst that knows women's basketball). Been saying that Miss. State needs to be stifling level aggressive on defense (4 quarters..from opening tip), forcing much more turnovers for this particular team to make goals for the season. Additionally these Miss. State guards continue to get beat off of dribble drive on a regular basis. This..with no rim protector on the back end to cover for them. Noticed that when Rocio Jimenez came into the game she mostly kept her arms/hands down while guarding on defense. She needs to keep them in much more upward, semi upward, to completely stretched out positions while guarding in the post....defensive post fundamentals. Have your arms and hands in good positions to quickly flex further upward from semi extended positions to near completely extended position. If she can adjust to properly and regularly keeping hands up on defense then better helps team in rim protection. Good example..Tim Duncan techniques. Team continues with huge issues defending the 3 pointers as well. Miss. State mised a good bit of 3 point shots but atleast they got fairly descent looks against a long team like South Carolina. Shots weren't falling, especially in rushing situations. I'm making these points not to complain but pointing out a few things that I've observed..and that can continue to be improved upon, corrected moving forward. Lots of basketball still left to be played.
we should have made a better effort on getting 33 the ball, instead of throwing up shitty 3 pointers. I would have fed Her every trip. She will take it to the hole.
(Note) This has been a very passive team defensively.
- Steals Per Game...Miss. State 13th in SEC
- Opponents Turnovers Per Game... Miss. State 312 in the NCAA D1
Coach Purcell needs to possibly go out to California and check out this under the radar junior college point guard. Her name is Ebele Mbagwu. She currently leads the nation (NJCAA) in steals.
